How to unlock mechjeb at start of new career?

I want to start a new career for a specific challenge I've set up for myself, and I would really like to save myself a bunch of grief in getting the account started. I tried to modify mechjeb to make it fully unlocked when you purchase the basic rocketry pack, by changing all the "TechRequired" to basicRocketry, but that didn't seem to work. Anyone have any idea how to change the mod to make it available early? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I think you have to go into the .cfg part file on MJ and change all the tech epochs to "start" it worked for me but that was before .23.5
