Challenge me!

Recommended Posts

Normally you see people challenging others to do something crazy like make an SSTO build a space station. This time, your challenge is to challenge me. I will try to do every challenge submitted, provided it can follow these few rules:

1- it must be physically possible

2- the rules for challenges submitted will be the same as the rules stated in this thread:

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79015-Proposal-for-standard-no-cheating-challenge-rules

If you wish to add to these rules, say so

3- I will accept mods, as long as they take up very little memory and RAM (KW rocketry is as far as I'll go) and you give me the link for download

4- Accept that I may not do it because it seems a tad too hard.

I will do them in order, 1 at a time. So don't post a new challenge if someone already has and I haven't replied!

All stock parts....go to Duna and back. Less than 40 total parts. No mods at all - not even MJ or KER.

(I haven't seen if I can do it yet)

I'm pretty sure I could to it with less than 40, probably even less than 20 now that I think about it.

This might interest you, from a minimum cost challenge, about 15 parts I think. Could be reduced further by consolidating tanks together, it was cheaper to use many small ones.

OP, some idea of your experience and skill level would give us an idea of what would be too difficult. What do you consider the hardest thing you've done so far?

Create a boat with a flat platform, launch it near KSC. Then create a small jet-powered VTOL (a jet or turbofan must be used to hover, no rockets) of whatever type and land on it. All stock parts. Here's proof it can be done:

EVA between two ships in space separated by at least a kilometre, entirely visually. That means hitting F2 to hide the interface, and no going into the map screen, from when you leave one ship until you enter the other. You can't pause, because that will show the interface (annoying I know), and no using a line of other ships to help show you the way!

Score is the separation of the ships at the start squared, divided by the time it takes you.

Hard mode: Target ship is smaller than a Jumbo-64 tank.

Manley Mode: Target ship is nothing but an external seat on a small structural panel, and you make a round trip.

I did something like this not long ago, crossing about 2 km. I was heading for a whacking great space station but STILL managed to lose sight of it for a while.

Build a plane with the cockpit on backwards. Fly in IVA view only, and land it on the island runway.

And/or do the same with the cockpit on upside-down

Ooh, I like this one. Doing it without external cameras is double points!

I can't imagine upside-down is terribly hard (I wanna try) but backwards is a neat test of navball-reading and instrument flying.

So many challenges already! These are the challenges that I'll do over the next week:

-Create a boat with a flat platform, launch it near KSC. Then create a small jet-powered VTOL (a jet or turbofan must be used to hover, no rockets) of whatever type and land on it. All stock parts. (set by Regex)

-Jump the canyon on Dres (set by Redrobin)

-EVA between two ships in space separated by at least a kilometre, entirely visually (set by Cantab)

-Build a plane with the cockpit on backwards. Fly in IVA view only, and land it on the island runway. And/or do the same with the cockpit on upside-down.

Any of the challenges I haven't chosen to do are either too hard or will take up too much time.

I'll upload my pictures on Monday (hopefully) and then will begin to attempt to do the ones that I haven't chosen to do yet, as well as some that will be posted after this is posted

Yeah, I've done the upside-down one myself. It feels a bit weird, but isn't too difficult once you get used to the controls being essentially backwards. It's fun though, and it's definitely something I want to try once I get my Oculus Rift!

I haven't tried backwards yet. I should do that, as it would be much harder. Probably want a plane with a very slow landing speed so you can see the surrounding landscape for reference before it's too late
