K, I give... How do I get my profile picture to come up when I post? I tried customizing but no luck.

Thing is, your avatar and your profile picture are actually two separate things. (Yes, it's confusing.) You should be able to set an avatar through the "Edit Avatar" option in the sidebar of your Settings page.
