Auto Save, the great destroyer of games

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to disable autosave? I have poked around and can't find an option, it keeps auto saving my game right as I make a huge error. I dig that trial and error is part of them game, but when you spend the time to make a mun landing and screw up the ascent over a silly happening it is a big kick in the junk when the game forces you to do it all over again.

F5 is quicksave. F9 is load.

ALT-F5 lets you make quicksaves and name them. Alt-F5 lets you reload a quicksave from the list.

I always quicksave before any burn, before any warp, before any maneuver. And sometimes just because.

Use the f5/f9 commands.

Before you do something risky, hit f5 to do a quicksave. If you fail, use f9 and it will reload your quicksave.

xcorps is the better response. I forgot about the alt f options. Very useful.

We apparently posted simultaneously.

Open the settings.cfg with notepad. Look for :

AUTOSAVE_INTERVAL = 300

AUTOSAVE_SHORT_INTERVAL = 30

Change the numbers to suit your needs. I think if you make them large numbers, the autosave is virtually disabled.

Autosave is a feature. It keeps your progress saved in case your game crashes - which may happen any moment. Don't get rid of it. As others above suggested, use quicksave/quickload and revert to launch to undo your own failures and crashes.

And to make sure you absolutely get what we're saying: quicksave does not overwrite autosave. Autosave does not overwrite quicksave.

Both have their uses, quicksave/load when there is planned trouble, autosave/load (the latter can only happen by resuming a save from the main menu) when there is unplanned trouble (that is KSP or even your computer crashes).

as it happens, i set my FRAPS to capture using F9 because i didn't want to use F11/F12, then i found basically every fail, i press F9 to load and Fraps captured the fail (not pretty)

Awesome! That made me laugh pretty hard. :D

As a side note, be cautious with ALT-F5. It's a bit close to ALT-F4 which will have quite the opposite effect than what you are looking for.
