Career Mode problems

Recommended Posts

Ok so I build a small ship and I put a goo container on it. I open the goo container when I leave the pad high in the upper atmo. I close it and proceed on to almost orbit... I open the goo again and..I cant use it? or it erases the last data I took I really don't get how the science is supposed to work I tend to put 30 or so goo containers on my ship and open one at a time as I approach a new area or thing... but then I have to somehow get all that back to the surface because my modual will only hold one or two experiments?

/sigh back to sandbox

love the game. I can build ships that can go anywhere in the system in sandbox but career just kicks me in the face.

Each Goo can only store data from a single use, this was added in 0.23 to give the MPL something to do in addition to increasing transmission efficiency. The materials bay behaves the same way, so if you want to take multiple samples on a single flight, just add more goo canisters. However, the other instruments (thermometer, barometer, seismometer, and gravimeter) can be used multiple times each, but still can only hold one result at a time. Kerbals can collect and store those experiments on EVA.

Also don't forget crew and EVA reports (both transmit at 100% efficiency).

I'll agree that the way science is handled in some situations isn't very intuitive, and that can be discouraging to new career mode players. Personally, I found it very rewarding after I figured it out.

30 goos? Are you mad?

You only need like 4.

Low flying, high flying, orbit, back on the ground.

Maybe add high orbit if you're greedy and want it all in 1 go. So 6 to keep symetrical.

Put them in symetry around the fueltank right below the command pod, put some parachutes on the pod and land. You don't HAVE to put them in the pod

Yes, Career Mode is a harsh Mistress... but once you 'get' how it wants you to do things baby steps at a time at first, you soon work out some god-practices that help maximise your science early on in the Tech Tree...

and a shameless plug, I have 4 Career Mode ships (tier 0-3a) the current highest tier one I managed to over-engineer... so it can quite hapily do flybys of both Mun and Minmus in one shot, or even seperately if you can't get the Mun gravity-asisted slingshot, and if you feel daring you could even try to land it on one of them  (must edit my signature to link to my Hanger in the Rocket Builders sub-forum!)
