Ok, so maaaaaybe I might be working on something again.
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to Whackjob's topic in KSP1 Mission Reports
I've now been inspired... stand by! ;D -
Been bounty hunting in Kremainn, and doing a little bit of battle next door in Mbukuravi... both are very close to the starting system (LHS 3447? Trevithick Dock). Say hi if you see me, apart from a few friends, most CMDRs don't seem to want to stop and chat, especially if there are a few hunting in the same RES!

I feel the need to apologise... as much as I love KSP and this challenge in particular, I've gone and got Elite: Dangerous! I feel kinda dirty, or something... heh, wierd how that works, isn't it! I will still be along to answer questions or give bits of advice if anyone wants them, but between my stupidly over-abundant games collection, increased work hours, pet snakes, friends and family, I don't think I currently have time to help out with the judging side of things... but I'm sure others who can spare the time will be along very shortly to lend a hand Oh, and expect a new entry from me 'at some point'... no, not even 'soon' I'm afraid And Raygundan; I had that a couple of times too, but before I had got my career save to the point where I could make the attempt! Over-ambitious moon bases scuppered me

I don't think you have read the challenge submission guide Are those mods required or optional? by 'cheats' do you mean the in-game dev menu? Waht's so special about the Mk 82 bomb you mention? Please don't take this negatively, we just like to see well-structured challenges on here

Get this thing off Kerbin!
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to Jack8763's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I intepret this as "Mods, please close"... I don't think it will be going far as a challenge! -
Welcome to the Forum! We see a challenge as a first post so much... please don't take anything said harshly, it is not intended that way! Firstly, it is obvious you haven't read the Challenge Submission Guide Secondly, you haven't supplied your attempt... and Thirdly, you haven't checked to see if anyone has posted a similar challenge! This was actually done (a little differently) a little while ago over on this thread (Well, very differently in this case, but what I mean to say is it is a fairly common challenge, usually started off with an argument about if it's possible or not!) A few hints for your challenge - Spelling, Grammar and punctuation, all reasonably important to avoid arguments about what you mean about something - simple is easier Why have you put your name on there when you don't yet have an attempt? Yep, we want a challenge, that's why we're visiting the challenges page Most people ban everything on the F12 menu...
-
Welcome to the Forum! It's also the done thing to check if the challenge already exists - you obviously did not check! http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/57197-The-Ultimate-Jool-5-Challenge-land-Kerbals-on-all-moons-and-return-in-one-big-mission
-
Challenges like this usually require the OP's attempt! this seems like a very restricted challenge, which might turn a lot of people off, but seems to be totally valid under the rules and regulations, bar your attempt to kick things off to show what is possible
-
I think it's up to you which mods, if any, you use for this challenge - so if you want to do it entirely stock, do so I think there's room for other mods to be allowed in future, but I think CalMacDa isn't too experienced with mods yet, so I think the right choice has been made for now (limiting the amount of allowed mods rather than an outright ban). I don't think there's a requirement for any of the mods... this could also be cleared up a little when CalMacDa gets round to it

The Most Fabulous KSP Girandola
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to rodion_herrera's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Only challenge that came close was to try and make a Trieflugel (German experimental aircraft that never made it past design stage, but happens to be the smaller-airship from "Captain America, First Avenger" [The flying bombs launched from the Valkyrie Long-Range flying wing type plane]). Nice idea for a challenge, but I think you might need a bit more structure to your challenge - limit parts or mods, and have a leaderboard ready for your entries - and your own one would be good! -
(EDIT: Didn't double check the rules!) What Must be Sent: *Send 4+ Kerbals - Yep - 10pts *Send a manned or unmanned space station that will be left there for future missions - Yep - 10pts *Send a Space Plane that can be brought down to Laythe, landed, and taken back up - Did take one, but didn't end up using it! - 0 pts? *Send a probe - Nope - 0pts *Send a rover and land that rover on one of the islands on Laythe - Nope - 0 pts *Land at least 1 Kerbal (just man the space plane) - Nope - 0 pts Rules: *Use allowed parts (stock, Mech Jeb, Kethane) *Mech Jeb is allowed *Send all but one Kerbal back *Leave the spaceplane with space station *Orbital assembly allowed Everything Worth 10 points - for following the rules, too? Bonus: *Leave a probe for all moons of Jool - 1 point - Nope - 0 pts *Send a manned ship to the station and refuel the spaceplane left there - 1 point - I didn't bother deploying the station - 0 pts *Complete the mission in 1 launch - 3 points - done in one launch on this one, but did not complete - 0 pts? *Dont use large parts (anything the size of the 4x engine cluster) - 1 point - Used SLS parts - 0 pts *Send a colony of 100 Kerbals - 2 points(Bonus Bonus: use the Keythane mod to give the colony the ability to launch and refuel ships) - 3 points - can do now with the huge new passenger parts, but not this time - 0 pts *Don't use Mech Jeb - 1 point - Nope, used MJ - 0 pts *Don't Aerobrake - 2 points - Aerobraked - 0 pts I got 20 points, from what I could work out... Just to show I did take the spacestation to be left in orbit, this is the same station but in my new attempt ship:

Another nice challenge for newer players, and well laid out too I'm still working on your first challenge though, so may well be skiping this one - hope it goes well! (And by the way, the players who have been playing a while now are probably still playing with all the new things in 0.90.0, and a lot of players who got the game for christmas may not have found the forums yet, so be patient and you'll get more entrants, I'm sure!)

No problem, I think RedIronCrown did more to put me right really! Hope you had a nice relaxing vacation Thoughts; I think this is still a top challenge, you still don't see the badge about very much except among some of the harder challenges, and I know for a fact that this takes a lot more planning than it initially seems! I think that there is plenty of room for an overhaul though, (which would also give you good excuse to start a new thread for it!), to start with an update of the levels now that there are so many more parts to play with... Or maybe make it a sub-challenge to do it all without the use of SLS parts? only using the Mk1 spaceplane parts? (as it was when you firts put the challenge up! almost - some parts have been buffed too... Ions, Mainsails and so on...) maybe a no RCS sub-challenge? (Or is that just too evil? hehe!) Also, CalMacDa has put up a Laythe Exploration challenge that I am currently attempting as a preparation for doing the Jool-5 again, I think it's a good practice run, filled with the same level of white-knuckle "Oh dear, I really should have checked the encounter WAY back!" excitement

I have been playing with very small spaceplanes that fit in the Mk3 Cargo Bays... if we think of the different sized bays as single, double and quad, I have now go it down to fitting in a double-bay... And it fits inside a double bay with ease! (shown attached to the bottom of a Laythe Space Station, but could be flipped round as there is also a docking port in the bottom of the cargo bay - the station takes up nearly the whole quad bay itself!)

Sun orbit...(Get the lowest orbit possible)
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to Stormchaser007's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Welcome to the Forum, interesting first post, but needs a bit of work to be a 'proper' challenge... as SRV Ron has pointed out, this is an extreme challenge that requires lots of fuel, and you can only go so low before any ship is destroyed... Read this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24898-Challenge-Submission-Guide and some other challenges to get an idea of how scoring should be done! (And none of this is meant nastily or anything, these are just pointers nearly everyone gets ) -
Right, I have had to completely re-design my Laythe Planes to fit in the new cargo bays, but I'm impressed with the result! I give you, The Armadillo! Test Version: Complete Mk.1 in orbit: With all the details: The Cruiser to take it to Laythe (with details) on launchpad: In Orbit: With the Armadillo attached to the rear, being refuelled before raising Ap and Pe to about 610km: Finishing Circularizing at around 610km: using Mechjeb's Advanced Transfer option: Course Plotted: Course change complete: This is as far as I have got for now, I have a couple of little surprises in store, so I'm getting on with this today now the christmas rush is over! EDIT: Unfortunately, I didn't have enough dV to complete this instance of the mission, but fear not, I have returned to the drawing board to fine-tune my design for another attempt!

0.90.0 Slow Load Time
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to Freak80MC's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
It is a little longer, but that's because there are now more stock parts - pretty much all of spaceplane+, and now the new Mk. 3 spaceplane stuff too... and I'm sure there's more to load 'behind the scenes' now the buildings have extra functionality... -
I think it will be something SQUAD do themselves for the aerodynamics, I can't remember where they said it but I think there were various things about the existing mods they didn't like or couldn't implement in the core game for now... I haven't said much about the deep space refuelling, because I really don't know and want to be finding that out nearer to when it's done, so it's more of a surprise gift than knowing in advance that I'll have to possibly learn to fly planes again xD (which, with the amount of real sims available that all have different controls and feels, shouldn't take too long ) I really doubt it will be like the mods for refuelling though... I think the fuel should be following some sort of logic, and not be a rather magical substance that happens to naturally form without being explained properly! (Microbial life will be sufficient for me...)

The KSP 0.90 Beta Seven Day New Career Challange.
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to SRV Ron's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Agreed, nice challenge! But, "4. TR-18A Stack Decoupler" - this is not available at the very start of the tech tree, and would require people to do some science before doing this challenge - was that your intention? -
SpaceX Falcon 9 Barge Landing Challenge!
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to Joshdog's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Yes, you are missing some vital things to make this a proper challenge... Rules and Scoring! It's your challenge, have a look at other challenges to get an idea of what rules you might need and edit your original post -
The Class-Z Asteroid Moon Challenge!
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to NASAHireMe's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
You also have to remember that you could hit the 2.5km (vanilla) physics range doing this... which would be interesting to see, but not necessarily 'good'! -
For those that have missed it, SQUAD have said happy holidays, and given us some important news about the next update! (0.91.0? 0.90.1?) Here! What would you like to see from this? do you have a preference for FAR or NEAR, and if you've tried both which do you prefer? And, of course, Merry Christmas!
