  1. Aha, glad you are about to clear that up! So that answers that one then... looks like we'll have to wait and see if it ever does get added to stock
  2. Again, no barring of the F-12 menu, so I can use infinite fuel, electric, hack gravity ETC... Unfortunately, after lengthy discussion previously, some 'house-rules' were discussed and agreed upon, but typically the post itself has disappeared into the foum history, until someone comments on it or it finally gets stickied >.< So, you have to say that specific cheats are not allowed, as well as barring some mods... but you have left yourself open to cheaty, over-powered engines (basically, changing the engines parameters without making them look any different to stock) with rule 4. Mods allowed: anything which doesn't change weights, drag, etc., other than FAR. as well as people using the F-12 menu. Also, you have made this a FAR-only challenge... other challenge-setters simply have seperate leaderboards for the different mods that do change the aerodynamic model, so people using stock can join in... As usual, I mean no malice or agressiveness, just trying to point out a few holes in your current rules!
  3. F-12 'debug' menu is stock... you can open it from either the KSC screen or in-flight! and by the way, it's a courtesy to hit 'edit post' instead of double posting... (None of this meant in any ofensive way whatsoever, and just noticed this is actually a Necro - a dead challenge originally posted over a year ago that someone has stumbled across and thought it's worthy of an attempt... but may never go anywhere because the OP is not aware that anyone has started posting in a thread that started and died so long ago, especially by internet-time standards!)
  4. Reading thorugh the post, it seems to have been kept as stock-like as possible (hell, it's by NecroBones with a lot of input by RedIronCrown!) so I feel confident in saying that I'm pretty sure Ziv would approve of this particular parts pack... heck, I'm tempted to get it myself, and could well be a contender for being a mod that we could see added into the game someday... BUT, having said that, I would just use the current analogues if possible (like the 4x nuclear engines instead of the 4x2.5m nuclear engine in the pack) or the parts that don't add any other sort of advantage (those cargo bays look awesome!) for now, or as you say, wait till Ziv gets back for a definite answer
  5. Mechjeb is usually secondary to Kerbal Engineer, as it has autopilot as well as the readouts... (but if playing in Career, Engineer is unlocked with the initial parts, just have to click them in the research building, but Mechjeb doesn't unlock its first parts until tier 3... and then only the readouts, so if you wanted to use the autopilot you can't until you unlock the right parts! Didn't relise this myself at first, and thought I had messed up installing it! hehe...) Getting just the readouts helps loads, using either KER or MJ, but many will say 'learn some things for yourself first' as then you are equipping yourself with some of the tools needed for extended missions... and of course, it's still possible to destroy the parts during the mission, which can mean having to find your own way back home anyway!
  6. Um, is this a challenge or just a show-of-your-spaceship thread? If the latter, maybe should be in the main dicussion or the Mission Reports... or simply just the rocket builders, where most people go to show off their ships (disclaimer: no offense is intended, just saying things as I see them, and this doesn't really fit in with the challenges!)
  7. *Turns on Infinite Fuel* Done! using just a Comand pod Mk 1, LV-909 engine and FL-T100 fuel tank... I think you need to re-structure and think about the rules more... and give us your reason for doing this? some kind of backstory makes all the difference
  8. Have a good one dude, I'll try to drop by more regularly and answer any questions that come up to the best of my ability! (As usual, anything I'm unsure of I'll defer to you on your return ) Kinda handy that I'm recovering from an operation at the moment and have the time off work! (Don't worry, it was just a septoplasty to correct my deviated septum [cartilage in my nose!])
  9. Check out the Jool-5 challenge - lots and lots of ideas going on there, as it's a do-all-5-moons-in-one-mission you might want to scale back from them if you only want to do one moon!
  10. Um, guys... this challenge isn't running any more... it has been said by a mod previously that anyone wanting to do it should re-make or try one of the maintained ones with different rules... I like that there seem to be a hardcore couple of people pressing on regardless, though!
  11. Agreed, no difference - only reason to get it n steam is to get auto-updates and to track how long you spend in-game! You can add shortcut to KSP in steam if you don't want to pay again though...
  12. Oh, you mean this challenge? http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/99633-Spoiler-Alert-Interstellar-based-Movie-style-rapid-spinning-docking-stunt
  13. The ladder problem is only really relevant to the Jeb-Level of the Challenge, due to the gathering of the Science. If you are only doing a Level-1, you don't need to worry about the Science, so getting onto the surface to get the Surface Sample isn't as much of a requirement
  14. 1. “Refuelingâ€Â: I see you frown on refueling, but can you be more specific about the definition of the word. Specifically, a lander returning to the mother ship, and taking on fuel that the mother ship brought with her, is that considered refueling? That's not considered part of the frowned-upon refueling; in fact it can make the mission more interesting! 2. “No parts clipping.†How absolutely do you mean that? I for instance, often clip girder segments partially into fuselages, so they look like they are attached. I’ll often place small components within girder segments. That is empty space. I also often rotate lights around so they look like they are imbedded in the surface. But this is all just cosmetic. - I would never do anything like place an engine within the fuel tank. No turning on part-clipping in the F12 menu, mainly... sure Ziv will clarify further if needed... And now a couple of rules clarifications: 3. “One big ship, and one fueling ship†I understand that. But I was planning on sending a fleet. So here’s my question: Is there any reason other ships cannot take advantage of the same launch window, leaving at roughly the same time, arriving at roughly the same time, as long as they don’t provide any support to the Jool 5 mission? You can send as man ships as you like in the same launch window, but only 1 will be eligible for this challenge (so all landers for all 5 moons need to be attached, if going that route). 4. Once a ship is no longer being used for the Jool 5 mission, a lander being left behind for instance, there’s no reason other Kerbals can’t use equipment that for other reasons, right? No problem there! 5. Once a given a Kerbal has completed his Jool 5 assignment, and is waiting for his departure window, (we have 100 days) there’s no reason he can’t be involved in other activities, right? Driving a rover around, delivering science to space station etc. Nothing wrong there either, as long as all the Kerbals taking part in the Jool-5 Challenge Mission return at the same time (I think... again Ziv will clarify if need be!) Hope this helps; I've been trying to do this for so long now! I will get another entry together soon... maybe...
  15. Nice Necro! But as things have moved on since the previous last post (6th of January)(new version, and plans for future versions out there), I think this thread should have been re-made instead of raised from the dead...
  16. Or, simply start up the save but fiddle with the difficulty options so you have just enough science and funds to open up what you want on the tech tree...
  17. In few words, yes they are! You might see people talking about NEAR or FAR - these are mods that change the factors involved, so it is a bit more realistic (including, with FAR, pressure tolerances on wing parts, so flying too fast through too thick an atmosphere can result in the wings getting ripped off!) and users of these usually refer to the 'stock' arodynamic model as the 'soup-o-sphere' hehe Edit; and I think hack gravity doesn't completely turn it off, just reduces it by a large factor... happy to be corrected on that though!
  18. Or just come find us and join the chat - there' usually a couple of admins about to get you joined up
  19. I've had that before too I thought it was something to do with following the contour of the land below, but now I have my suspicions... hehe!
  20. store them on an image hosting site (Imgur is popular), and then there are a couple of different commands to use on the forum to mae them appear... I'm sure someone regular even has instructions in thier signature
  21. Interesting second post! Pics, or it didn't happen This is most likely the physics Kraken at work, there's a reason a warning pops up first time you try to go at 4x physics warp... how many parts does this B9 Kornbluth have?
  22. It might be best to start a new Career save for this and doing things slowly... with the new difficulty options, I have a fast-track save that I unlock the Tech fast, but still have to build up Rep before I get the right missions (this is turning out to be a right pain to do, but with a little extra Funding here and there I think I'm making it work... this time...) It's well worth a go no matter how you decide to do it - Career is only required for the Jebediah level, so you could do any of the first 3 levels in a sandbox
  23. Just to warn you, this is likely to be moved to the mission reports section...
  24. OP seems to have missed reading this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24898-Challenge-Submission-Guide Leaderboard? some way of scoring? What is to stop me from just download the Mod that gives me the enterprise? No offense intended, but it seems like you have jumped on the forum and posted this without reading anything else or posting anythig else! (4 posts, 3 of them in this challenge...) My bad... This is a Necro! KILL IT! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!! (Usual procedure is to re-make such an old challenge if it hasn't been posted on in a long time, and the poster only ever made 4 posts/replies, so is not likely to judge any new entries!)
  25. You do seem to be missing a fair bit from your rules; nothing about F12 cheat menu, nothing about any mods except Mechjeb allowed... and Why does KSC want to de-orbit their space stations? surely having a load of fuel in orbit is more useful than simply de-orbiting it... (which brings up the 10-part station... fuel depots don't need much else than fuel tanks, a battery, docking port or claw and solar panel or two!) None of this (or what Starwhip said) is meant negatively or similar, it could be a cool challenge if you just make the rules a bit clearer and more rigid, and try it yourself to see what sort of score you get, maybe try it with a couple of different stations to see what the difference in score is, and maybe come up with a few different scoreboards for drastically different stations - small, medium and large, and maybe seperate categories for some of the mods, as FAR and Deadly Re-Entry will make some stations much harder to get back safely than others (if at all)!
