  1. This is the bit I'm struggling to get my head around... you even said "However, I did battle with the challenge requirement to fly two parallel, identical missions." - to me, the same problem comes up with the two PPM's that stay in orbit... whoever manages to get both back within LKO before one or the other exits the SOI is a winner to me! Can we maybe have this as 'bonus points'? After reading some of the meaterial you provided, I noted that the PPM's would be 'discarded' (Terrible waste of rocket parts/funds!), but would be much easier to recover them from Sun orbit when they pass back by Kerbin, probably half-way through the mission... or maybe some extra scoring system for our soutions to this problem? Of course, those using KAC would be at an advantage here as they get the reminder to switch ships when they approch SOI change or a maneuver node, otherwise it would be very easy to miss the apropriate timings to do it...
  2. Looks to me like there are some 'exhaust tubes' under the SRB's that get let behind on launch... and they might be the parts either making or directing the dust plumes through the launchpad flame trenches... either way, I think it looks much better too
  3. This reads more like your observations and suggestions, so might be better in the suggestion sub-forum... And you might be a bit premature; Squad have said that they will now be going back through everything they've got in the game, to tidy up and 'fix' some of the things us players find most annoying - including bug-fixes for some that have been in the game a long time but have never been looked at (Player suggestions are now being ranked/rated by voting by players), aerodynamic model, and lots of other things too...
  4. Hehe, second person to do that But rest assured, it is a workable design! I have been working on something else, but I'm sure Whackjob would steal the idea pretty quick lol!
  5. Bahahahahahahaha! But, slightly seriously, you have to meet some pre-requisites to see it, so I think it deserves to be an easter egg... type thing... like, all the buildings now have their own Biome, but to find this out for yourself, you would have to spend the time walking/roving around... Just because something becomes well-known, doesn't make it less of an easter egg... To me, an easter egg is something 'extra' in an unexpected place, and possibly not related to the game it's in... like the Doom guy in a secret room in Quake 1 (O.k, that one is slightly related...) but a 'giant' (compared to Kerbals, who seem to use them as jacuzzi's or something!) toilet in a wrecked building, that you can only see by accidentally (or on-purpose) by blowing up one specific building... yeah, that fulfills my definition of 'easter egg' hehe Even though it has already been mentioned in the other thread, I think it is, um, worthy of it's own thread...
  6. So this is just a specific-mod version of the other Skylon Challenge? (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/94730-The-Ultimate-SKYLON-Challenge-open)
  7. I believe a lifeline/umbilical line should be in the game, even the very fist man to EVA IRL had one! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/special/2014/newsspec_9035/index.html
  8. I believe that Ziv is now allowing the 'normal' struts from KAS to be used... I'm sure he will be along to set you straight on all your questions though!
  9. Just rediscovered this on Reddit: Apparently was being planned as a mod, but it doesn't seem to have progressed much recently...
  10. Would probably be best to ask here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/forums/15-Gameplay-Questions-and-Tutorials
  11. Yes, I will be trying this - but when I'm good and ready! Most of the poeple who do the challenges on here are usually mid-way through one or the other of the other challenges, and so new ones can take time to gather interest/momentum (so don't worry... and if anyone is going to be re-creating any of these ships in KSP, it will take them a while )
  12. Dear goodness, I think I'm having more fun and spending more time reading all the awesome stuff to research this, and then you go and post moe things to read I'm in the planning phases of a Jool-5 attempt at the moment, but I want to give this one a go as well... So you might end up with some pictures to use at least, depending on what I come up with
  13. I thik you should have waited until you had some entrants to the first challenge, to be honest... new challenges can take a while to get going, and if you spam too many at once then bad things can happen! Firstly, one of the two challenges could prove the more popular, and you will find you have to spend a lot of time judging the entrants - Just ask Ziv about that with his Jool-5 Challenge! he has stated it takes a good 30-40 minutes to judge each entrant minimum, and if you get a few entries in a row that's a good couple of hours of your time taken up... which means less time to play Secondly, you are assuming people know what you mean with the 'Ungreen' thing... is this a mod? an imaginary monster? This will lead to confusion and people not entering until you explain a bit better! Please do not take this negatively, your challenges are good, you just need to make everything as plain and simple as you can to get people started, and like in the first challenge you posted, your attempt will help! even if it's not a success... And slow things down a bit, it takes time to do things in KSP
  14. Just a small update from me (as I still love this challenge! ), I have been experimenting with multiple-cargo bay vehicles! I won't share my experiental builds just yet, but I will release them as downloadable craft (both the single 'overview' ship in VAB, so you can make your own LV's and stuff, and the individual, dockable parts on LV's so you can just launch and dock, then go do whichever mission you feel like doing with it ) once I have actually completed this mission... I am determined to nail the Jebediah Level! EDIT: and I think I'm starting to rival Whackjob in the size of my creations... I'm sure I'll do him proud lol!
  15. Basically, it's a devide by 0 error - it's to do with some of the fancy programming they've done to shoehorn the physics into Unity, and unfortunately is more of a Unity error than a KSP one! Until they start using a newer version of Unity (and they haven't switched yet for the same reason they haven't migrated the forums to the newer vesion ov Vbulletin; some new features, but old ones missing, which could cause more problems than it fixes...) we are stuck with it... did your ship by any chance have a Claw on it? That's known Kraken bait at the mo!
  16. I'm sure at some point the dust effects were being discussed... or it was at least a suggestion! Google seems to be failing to find the post...
  17. http://wiki.kerbalspaceprogram.com/wiki/List_of_easter_eggs "Mysterious rock, on the continent which looks like Africa, not a terrain rock, but it sits above the ground, likely movable.[coordinates missing] Strange formations of islands, near the continent which looks like South America.[coordinates missing] "
  18. Anyone had any luck yet? apparently there are two new eastereggs somewhere on kerbin...
  19. Welcome to the forum! Nice first post, but I'm afraid your challenge might get defeated by this post: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/95806-25-Easter-Egg-Hunt
  20. This seems like a good challenge to me... especially as each building is it's own biome now It would be entirely up to you how you set it up rules/leaderboards-wise, and the only other challenges I've seen are to desroy all the buildings, not land near them and not blow them up! have a read through similar challenges (I would say the ones that ask you to fly planes around KSC or to land things near them) for some more ideas on how to do it, notice how the popular ones are laid out, and try to make it stand out in a fun way
  21. Welcome to the forum! While a good challenge, it's not very well laid out... For starters, it's all one big block of text, with nothing to break it up, and a link to an imgur album rather than an embedded version (preferred format). You also ned to lay out the ground rules; which mods are required, and which are banned... Working out scoring/leaderboards ahead of time is also usual. This seems like a build chalenge, with no firm objective... some people usually have a base-scoring method, with multipliers for the bodies reached/landed on... not to worry though, this is what the edit button is for
  22. I second Aethon's suggestions, really! and back up what the other's said about your questions... If you really, really struggle to learn particular things about spaceflight, then MechJeb is a mod that can teach you - it is very easy to abuse, so not really recommended for beginners until they have made at least their first Mun-Landing on their own, but can be a really valuable tool to learn things like the finer points of docking and orbital rendezvous... once you have learnt what you want from it, you may find you don't need it again, until you get to the stage where you are docking parts of ships together in space, then it can become a really useful automation tool (someone was going to mention it sooner or later, it is one of the more popular, but devisive, mods about!)
  23. I'm actually tempted to make one...
  24. Lets get this straight; do you want a fairy: or a Ferry? (Both images shamelessly stolen from a simple google image search...) With no offense intended, this is a very good idea for a challenge, just needs a bit of proof-reading
  25. PMM = Planetary Mission Module PPM = Primary Propulsion Module EEM = Earth Entry Module (Should be KEM?) MEM = Mars Excursion Module (Shoud be DEM?) MSSR = Mars Surface Sample Return (Should be DSSR?)
