  1. Random thought; a little while ago, there was talk about dust resulting from the surface ablation from rockets... Don't recall hearing about a mod that does this yet... it would be easily discoverable as soon as you come near ground at many locations with rockets firing, and so not take too long to work out for anyone, and it would be awesome crosses fingers he hasn't just guessed the surprise
  2. Also common in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series... which I am close to having the full collection
  3. Need more people in the chat! I'm usually in there when I'm not working... and found out today my in-week overtime has come to an end, so will be about on tuesdays from next week... until my hours change again >.<
  4. Stil figuring out SP+ - as it's going to beincluded in future .25 update, Ziv has allowed its use So testing, testing, testing... will upload a screenshot of the Mothership later (still tryin to work on a good name for it!) EDIT: Getting there... currently playing about with a crew transfer Spaceplane, I think once I've got this working I will have a batter idea on how to do the new Laythe Plane
  5. I did, then I restarted my save when .24 came out and it's kinda faded away a bit now Fair one Ziv, I have to admit I've found it hard enough already!
  6. Doesn't matter what my definition is; It's up to Ziv! But ideas have been thrown around, such as no Refueling, no Ions, no Nukes, must take x amount of HHSC's to fit x amount of Kerbals comfortably, cannot be built in orbit, and so on... So the idea is there, it's just up to someone to go ahead with it
  7. Phew! But then maybe make a "Super-Hard" sub-challenge maybe? Then you would get to be as harsh as you like, without detracting from the main chalenge... mwahaha
  8. Could we see your attempt, and maybe some reference pictures? Cool challenge, but it is obvious you haven't read the rules yet! Very common with people new to the Forums... Just a little bit of tweaking and this will be do-able, IMO
  9. So how would that work with the "As many launches to LKO as you like" and putting your ship together in orbit? I think it would give an adavantage to those who decide to build in LKO over those who want to launch a single ship... I really do think it's time you posted a new "Hard Mode" thread, where you get to be as brutal as you like! IMO, you seem to have lost sight of the first thing under rules - "Given the size of this challenge, everybody is a winner and saves the Kerbal Space Program who executes this successfully." I'm not trying to use this as an argument to get my first entry somewhere on the first post, just a reminder of what you intended when making this challenge... which is a good old time ago now! And I'm sure a "Hard Mode" version would bring many of the previous entrants to the original Jool 5
  10. Arn1e2040 here - Have sent you (OP) a request, and by the way I searched for Volcanix, nothing came up for herobrinhunter...
  11. About 90% of my Spaceplanes fall into this category... the amount of times I end up reverting to SPH because I've forgotten struts, or assigning engines to keys, then when I'm finally ready to launch my Kerbals into the wild blue yonder I have a cross-fingers moment when it's trying to lift itself before the end of the runway...
  12. again in advanced edit, there is a big delete option up the top... Again, none of what I said should be taken with any malice, as none is intended... I hope the challenge goes well, just I won't be taking part, and maybe a link to your video of your RL ALS IBC would be cool in the other thread (I wouldn't mind seeing any of the devs get challenged to an IBC, either )
  13. If that is the case, I suggest he rename it... (click 'go advanced' in the edit bit)
  14. Er... think you are missing the point of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge... The idea of pouring a bucket of ice-cold water over your head is meant to simulate the suffering of someone with ALS, so you get an idea of what they go through on a regular basis... There is also a bit of controversy surrounding the ALS charity as well, with them supposedly testing on large amounts of animals... Sorry, but this is one I won't be taking part in, for the reasons listed above and more, but some others might be interested... I can picture Whackjob launching a MEGA bucket at a kerbal on the Mun...
  15. Ziv has completed his own challenge (plus an extra rule or two for himself) a few times, at least once with Jeb on his own in the ECS all the way! Others have done Grand Tours in that way too, just depends what level you are going for... and nice work, Himynameisjake, I can't speak for Ziv, but I would guess that you are including that mod so you can land on water at Laythe? The parts described in the readme don't seem overpowered, so I think he may allow! (Link: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/24845-Boat-Parts-0-24-R4-5?highlight=BoatParts)
  16. All cool Whelp,I gone and made a spaceplane with the SP+ parts, and it's perfect! It will again be the vessel carrying the Science package(s) to orbit, just need to do a few tweaks to make it meet the requirements (Barometer and Atmospheric Nosecone... might have to hide them away in the bay, there's a little bit of room left )
  17. Ah, nicely done sir makes it really simple to see what is allowed and what isn't... One problem; SP+ includes an outdated version of Firespitter, but I haven't noticed any Firespitter parts since I tested out SP+ on a backup save yesterday... some might be tempted to delete the outdated folder and replace with the newer version! Might need to add a caveat to cover this.. But This makes me happy, as A) we can get used to some of the parts that may or may not be included when .25 comes out, and My Laythe Plane will be looking so much better than the first one!
  18. Ziv, where do you stand on Spaceplane+ now it's announced to be in the next update? Been working on a new entry (having learnt so much from my first go!) and am in the end of planning and now onto first stages of build; it would be nice if we could start using the nice cargo bays now
  19. I've been working on the project in the current save, and am pleased to report that I have, with a fair bit of redesign, managed to make it much more cost efficient as well as (hopefully) having enough dV for everything... if not, then I'm hoping it will take only a single fuel run to get my boys home, as opposed to the rediculous amount I ended up doing on the last Mission! Doodle! I have so far managed to design the Mothership, external dropable fuel tanks to provide most of the fuel for dV, and possibly even be used in conjunction with the Tug, which has also been designed and built, the Bop and Pol landers are done and have dV to spare, both using Ions, Laythe Plane 2 (wacky new design!) that carries a standard cargo of a small science and comms satellite, which I have designed to be interchangable with the Science Package, which is also now designed and built, stored currently as a Sub-Assembly... The Laythe 2 is radically diferent from most of my previous designs as it is the first of my spaceplanes to have any sort of cargo capacity... I'm hoping I have got the designing just right and it doesn't fall apart once the cargo is released! (As I write this, just hit 10k metres on the first test run, and have realised I have forgotten the PresMat Barometers >.<)
  20. Woo! just got a new achievement! and lost one, so still have the same amount... anyway, I recently suprassed 1000 hours game time logged on Steam so, I claim my I Played KSP Once, but lose the previous one...
  21. Hmmmm, now you've mentioned it... The cockpit IVA's could all do with work, some don't even exist, but would be very cool to have (I'm looking at you, MPL!) Lots of people moan about just the Mk.2 cockpit... BUT... I'm pretty sure that there are mods out there that add IVA detail, but not to the extent SQUAD could/want to... So this is gonna be high on my list of hopes for .25
  22. After a long, long time working on my SSTO SpacePlanes, I may have come up with one that actually meets the challenge! Will post later, IF I manage to land it hehe
  23. Welcome to the Forum! Unfortunately, you have fallen into the trap many people new to the forum do; You haven't read the rules or guides! Challenges require that they be possible, and I don't think this is... a Glider is unpowered, and as such will not be able to reach the Mun... unless you get the leading plane to take it there... but how would you slow your descent? As it stands, a glider would simply crash, as there is no atmosphere to provide lift... Sorry if this comes across as a bit harsh, it's a nice idea for a challenge, but as I said, not currently possible in the current game...
  24. Congrats and well done - the first time you do anything successfully is worthy of celebration Just to warn you, this could get moved to the mission reports, which is where things like this usually go
  25. Heh... I messed up already... I was working towards this in my current Career mode save, but turned out I haven't got the hang of recovering my LV's enough to be swimming in funds... So when I built my first Mothership it turned out to cost over a million Funds... reducing what I had to spend on the fuel tanks and landers that needed to be attached to make it go anywhere! Here's a pic to show you how baDass it was (is - still have the .craft saved): It got to orbit with 50% fuel remaining in its tanks, but I can't even afford to send up the fuel tanker to top it back off... not a good start! I had designed it and made the whole ship (with additional fuel tanks, MPL, Tug, but without landers) in VAB, and it had over 10km of dV... PLENTY for everything I wanted it to do, including be refuel depot for the Tug once it's parked in Tylo Orbit... Still, now I am aware of my shortcomings, I will be carrying out not one, but TWO Jool-5 Missions - one in the current Save, and another specifically made for the challenge (Which will concentrate on unlocking Science and spaceship parts, to see if I can make my program more profitable, and therefore the Jool-5 Mission more Spectacular )
