Reading these latest posts is giving me the idea for a plan... might try it out quick in stock 0.23 to see if it will work when the patch is released! fun times ahead ^.^ oh, and nearly forgot the obligatory "is it here yet? how about now? refresh again... how about now?" hehe...

the ANTICIPATION! I've almost lost interest in usual Kerbally activities just in case the patch goes live and I check back and go "...oh bugger, how much time have I just wasted in the last version when I could have downloaded and been playing the updated version for however long!" This is a patch which adds in Asteroids to the current solar system (NOT a usual game update), and adds new parts to make the mission easier to do... it's not really something you can just ignore, either, as there will be some 'close encounters' with Kerbin which would play havok with anything you may have put in orbit! (If the Asteroids are like ships, they will transfer speed to the surroundings due to some complex coding... so one minute your space-station could be fine, next time you check it's a floating cloud of slowly separating bits of debris for no apparent reason... way to force players to keep an eye on those big damn space rocks, never mind if you can do anything about it, if ones coming in close, watch out that nothing is in it's orbit path lol!

Fair enough, a bit more clarity is always good! Ah, the good old days, where the scientists of the time thought that Astronauts would face similar problems to deep sea divers! not sure that's replicable in KSP at this time, but very cool idea, which I don't think I've seen/heard yet... Might be best to plan out rules and things on a bit of paper first, then try and do it yourself - that way you'll find out how hard it will be, and be able to work out some sort of scoring system off that

Well, that's very specific for a challenge! Pretty sure they didn't plan a mars journey from the surface of the moon in the 60's, either... heh... Further, all rockets are 'chemically fueled'; and I don't know why ion engines are 'illegal' for this challenge, as you need quite a few of them to get anywhere near the thrust of normal rockets... Why build the structural structural covering around a kerbal, then leave him on the moon? what is he going to do with this spare rocket you send him? This could all be done far easier with some better planning, and this will be a very hard challenge to judge, as you haven't set out the rules properly, there is no scoring system, and you are inviting ridiculously long, image-laden replies... I feel quite hypocritical saying these things, as I have yet to come up with a challenge myself, but have a look through some of the other challenge posts and see how they are set out - most have a picture or two giving people the idea of what is wanted (Spacestation challenge, for example, says exactly what the challenger is wanting to see, and has a screenshot or two where they have tried the challenge out to see how possible it is). This seems to be a great idea for a challenge, I just think you need to work out a few more things for it (as mentioned, some sort of scoring system, so you end up with a leaderboard or similar, so we can compare our results!). Please, don't take this the wrong way, it's a good idea, just needs more shape to it

I was excited before I saw that vid... now it's just "GIMME!!!" (I know, I have to wait like everyone else... )

That's no Mun, that's a space station!

I shall give this a go... will be a real test of how much space station my PC can handle! -
The MachingBird Challenge!
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Right, here is my entry for the Maching Machine Club (Manned, MachJeb): Going fast: Results: -
That's never good to hear! hope you get it sorted... Been trying to do the 'Maching Machine' challenge recently, both mannaed and un-manned vehicles, which don't qualify for this challenge (as it's purely fuel/air mix only, no oxidizer allowed)... My "Madness 1" might qualify... if I can be bothered to get it all the way into space!

Think using someone elses craft for this challenge is still classed as 'gatecrashing'... Will be posting another entry soon, just trying to do a few other challenges now!

Post your planes of any type here! [.23]
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to burnoutforzai's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Fair enough, I managed that too! much too easy to click 'copy' (the wrong thing) from the right-click menu! -
Looks like I'm a bit late to the whole Kerbal party! Today I managed to get my first SSTO up and docked with my spacestation, had been messing around for a while trying to get my lab staffed! Anyway This is it just about to dock: and here is Hadzore (Or it could be Harmore...) making his way from the SSTO to the lab itself... I do have to confess re-fuelling while docked with the station, and put it back down on the tarmac with a bit of a bump, resulting in the loss of the 3 lower engines...

I can see it... Cool-looking, is it entirely rocket-powered? -

Nope, it's there, so the post is on the end of page 3 and has started page 4! (Might need to nod at a mod...)Another busy and productive day for me, I finally got one of my Planes to dock with my KSS! Will post the saga another day though, sure there are lots of people with really cool planes! -

I've had a busy and productive day today... the joys of being signed off work sick! Anyways, I was impressed that I got an SSTO off the ground with one of the orange tanks included... now managed it with 4, using Mainsail engines! Now to refine it a bit, and send it up to my space station -

As promised, here are the ones I've been working on recently; and sorry this is a bit pic-heavy! And keep forgetting to say that MechJeb is the ONLY non-stock part, mainly because I sometimes panic and send things spinning out of control! (Without mechjeb, I find it VERY hard to pilot the 'planes... but I am going through a bad time right now, so forgive me, please!) First up is my EXperimental X-Plane 64 (I've recently been numbering my craft as though it were RAM! ) and is named so: Next up is the X-Plane EX128: and in-flight: Lastly, I have finally managed to build an SSTO using one of the large orange fuel tanks! never expected it to get it off the ground, so there is only one quick snapshot of it on it's maiden voyage: All of these planes have been designed to be dock with my space station and OFD found in the spacestation thread -
SPACE STATIONS! Post your pictures here
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to tsunam1's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
The couple I have up now; The OFD (Orbital Fuel Depot) sitting just outside of atmosphere for my spaceplanes: and my version of the KSS, sitting at 150km, made up (so far) of 4 docked parts - the 'main' bit is with the cupola at one end, then the power and secondary hab unit (which also contains the crew for the science lab), and another OFD attached to the bottom of that, and the primary hab unit/comms unit is attached perpendicular to the rest: I have plans for more, and different configurations for my KSS, thinking I definitely need some sort of outpost near Jool! -
SPACE STATIONS! Post your pictures here
Cmdr. Arn1e replied to tsunam1's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Wow, so much win right here in this thread! No screenshots until later, and none at all of my first efforts (from what I could see on my steam screenshots, anyway... damn mobile 'net!!!) but made the n00bie mistake of using the small 1x6 solar panels in rows along 2 of the big I-beams... result was that it absorbed the speed/wash of any engine passing too close, and all the solar panels just wobbling madly, whether they were open or retracted! looked like it was trying to use them to fly away! Latest one is much better, uses all-Gigantor arrays, with much more spacing between docking ports, and more different types of docking connector (all 3 in use - Jr., Snr., and standard...) -

Been playing with the spaceplanes muchly recently, and here's one that actually flew, but wasn't really space-worthy; and one that can make it to space, but didn't stay up for very long; Will upload some more successful/recent ones later on today, along with space-station docking! -
No Wesley?! but who do we blame the replicator problems on now?! Wonder what Wil Wheaton would say if he ever found out... heh
-
I turned to the Steam Guides at first, which taught me a lot of the fundamentals, and then moved on to MechJeb a little after... Only mod I've used so far, still having WAY too much fun with the stock parts (and SO looking forward to the next lot!)
-
Good work, took me a while to get my head round things before I stopped crashing - I have the Steam guides and Mechjeb to thank for teaching me where I was going wrong
-
Thanks! It's been a wild ride so far, but I found Mechjeb and that has made EVERYTHING much smoother! although I did struggle with even the use of MJ to start with, heh... Looking forward to getting 1st 3 posts out of the way so I can post a few screenshots... learnt before on another forum that it's usually a good idea to search for similar recent posts, and a lot of the etiquette, so hopefully I should fit in

Hello all... Bought KSP for myself for christmas, and have been hooked ever since... Completed the career mode a couple of times in different save files, been to most of the planets and moons, have built a few space stations, got a couple of Fuel Depots up to different altitudes, probed some of the planets and the sun, and am just perfecting my spaceplanes after a bit of experimentation (trial and LOTS of error, hehe!) Kerbal is to blame for my renewed enthusiasm for games in general; have been going through a bad patch recently, and besides Kerbal I haven't played very much... probably due to the highly addictive nature of the game! "New 'Minecraft'" indeed... with far more scope, IMO! after all, you can't build fully-working rockets in Minecraft, or any vehicles really... looking forward to the day when the Devs finally finish it off, that will certainly be a VERY good day! ~.^
