[DEV][0.24.x][Jul 24] SCANsat v7.0rc4 -- Real Scanning, Real Science, at Warp Speed!

Recommended Posts

I can get Science from over parts but ScanSat's and my Crew and EVA Reports are gone but, I'm trying a new Life support mod let me take it out and check.

Edit-- Wasn't the new LS mod and the ScanSat maps are not showing up on the RPM screens.

Edit2-- Put the old ScanSat back in and got the maps to come backup on the RPM but still no Crew or EVA or Scanner Science and the MapTraq did have the 'analyze' button so you could click on it and didn't have to click on all the Scanners to click the analyze button which was nice.

Edit 3 -- OK LH mod took out EVA and Crew reports

Edit 4-- ok all good but RPM maps had to start new career after taking LH out.

Which version gave you an 'analyze' button on the MapTraq, and was this the standard MapTraq or was it altered (is the sensorType = 0)? From v6 on there shouldn't be any science button for it unless you change the sensorType.

What is the LH mod? This science experiment bug is really weird and I want to figure out what is causing it, or if some combination of mods is involved, even though I don't think SCANsat itself is doing it.

The SCANsatRPM will have to wait until we get a real update. I'm only interested in testing for data continuity in upgrading from old versions with this release.

Think it Build 6 it says in the read me file and, I didn't change anything just a cfg to add it to command parts MapTraq was like the cpu of ScanSat you had to have it to open maps and save data and with the 'analyze' button on it you could send all the data from all the Scanners on that craft and LH = Lionhead_Aerospace_Inc.

Edit - taking it off now you have to click on ever scanner and analyze and send.

Edit - should check them on they are some nice sat in the probe and lander pack but as of now there are some bugs in them.:( Link http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/12106-0-23-5-Lionhead-Aerospace-Inc-Probes-and-Landers-Pack-updated

MultiSpectral scanner gave science perfectly for me, have not tried others as I already mapped the planets I has scanners around and got the science already. :) Resource scanners are working great! Old scans came up immediately with new scans filling is as expected. I did find that there has to be an active scanner functioning around the SOI for the resource overlay to display, even if the planet had previously been scanned. Example, map doesn't show any Kethane deposits, but if any SCANsat Kethane scanner is turned on the entire map fills with all the previously detected deposits. If the scanner is turned off the map again shows none. This is with all resources, I just used Kethane in the example.

I have had no crash or errors which I could attribute to SCANsat which is a very good thing :) It may be useful to note on that, that I do not use RPM.

The overlay control is quite cumbersome having to go into settings and and change that for each resource to display. The display itself is amazing, but some changes to the way to overlay is presented would be fantastic. :)

But does the MapTraq just have a single 'analyze' button? How much data were you able to collect, and which type of report did it give you? It should say something like "Analyzed low resolution altimetry data" in the experiment result page based on which scanner type is being used to generate science. As far as I know it is only setup to collect data from one scanner type at a time, so if you only collect data once you only get a third of the possible science from each planet. It really shouldn't work at all from an unmodified MapTraq, or config file with a sensorType = 0 field.

I don't understand what this means.

whoops lol you should check them out lol sorry thinking faster then can type and can't type at all and it just 1 button will load up and see.

Edit- Well with that build the button is dead :( now don't know what build it was.

Edit-- 3 :D think some are yours lol

This is weird. I don't see this happening. I tried this with all SCANsat modules around Kerbin turned off (you can see on the small map if any vessels around the current body are active) and all resource overlays were working. Switching resource types can turn off the overlay in some cases (switching to different Kethane resources), but the overlay button should still be there on the big map and work if you push it.

When you see the overlays disappear are the buttons still present? And is the main resource overlay toggle activated in the settings menu?

Oh yeah, I've seen that pack before, I think I looked at some of them when I was designing some of my science parts. Though I have no idea why those parts would cause problems with science reports.

Edit: Ha, some of those ScienceDefs.cfg reports sure do look familiar:kiss:. Strangely enough I see no indication of attribution...:sticktongue:

The UI redesign is my job. DMagic did all the heavy lifting. I haven't released any of it yet because it's tied up in palette support code.

Which distribution are you using? We have not changed version numbers at all, yet. This problem should have been solved.

This is with the limited-release version that I uploaded a few pages back. RPM works fine with it, I just didn't include the updated SCANsatRPM.dll in the files that I released since I wan only really interested in whether or not it broke scanning data from older versions.

It was the one he posted here http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/80661-DEV-SCANsat-v7-0rc1-Real-Scanning-Real-Science-at-Warp-Speed%21-May-22?p=1188818&viewfull=1#post1188818

Edit- As far as the 'analyze' button on the MapTraq don't know what ver. it was got to many installs, :confused: got to stop that but there so many good mods and then, I get to pulling mods out of installs and forget what ones got updated.:rolleyes:

Right.

My strategy with versions is to manually set a version for the latest release (v6.0 -> "1.0.6.0" in assembly file) and stick with it for the release and for the dev version until we either break backward compatibility or we make a new stable release.

Long story short, the SCANsatRPM folder/file that comes with v6 might still be working fine. It will certainly not have resources in IVA yet, but it should still work fine.

If it does not work fine, I can take a look.

With that ver. RPM is broke but all good, I can go back to release ver.

I'm pretty sure that RPM was working fine when I update SCANsatRPM along with my latest version of SCANsat, though I'm not entirely sure why resources don't show up in the IVA maps (it works similar to how the zoom map, which does display resources). But I'm really not sure about how this dependency stuff works, and what breaks what, and so on, so I didn't include it with the other files.

ssRPM essentially re-does everything itself. I'm not surprised it doesn't work.

And sorry off Topic or your mod but just to ask how can LH mod block Crew reports when it doesn't have a plugin ?

Edit- Yes I do

Edit- OK now, I think, I see its like some MODULE don't play nice on the same part so if, I go in and take out the same experiment definitions it may work ?

Edit- Again sorry but does some experiment ID's not play nice with other's on the same part ?

It may not be caused by that mod, or at least not by LH alone.

Do you have my mod installed too, DMagic Orbital Science? Those duplicate ScienceDefs.cfg experiment definitions might actually be causing a problem. I've had KSP choke before when it runs into multiple experiment definitions for the same experiment.

Edit: This seems to be the culprit, or at least a culprit. Adding the ScienceDefs.cfg file to my GameData folder along with my mod and nothing else breaks the crew report, though it doesn't seem to affect my parts (the magnetometer collected data fine).

Since I've seen this other times, I think that something else must be going on here too. It may be that any ScienceDefs.cfg can somehow screw up certain experiments this way, it's very strange.

Could, I change it to

@EXPERIMENT_DEFINITION

{

~id = magScan <-------or----->%id = magScan

title = Magnetometer Scan

baseValue = 5

scienceCap = 5

dataScale = 2

requireAtmosphere = False

situationMask = 51

biomeMask = 1

RESULTS

{

Edit- Was just trying to think of away they can be wrote so it didn't happen again.

It would probably be best to simply delete all of the duplicate EXPERIMENT_DEFINITION nodes in the LionHead ScienceDefs.cfg file. As far as I can see they are the same, though from an earlier version.

I made a proper release with the latest version on GitHub: SCANsat V7.0rc 2.1

It includes SCANsatRPM, which worked when I tested it. And it seems I was wrong, it does show the resource overlay. There is no way to control it from the IVA, but you can turn it on or off from the settings menu and the regular big map.

The Module Manager configs with the SCANsat module definitions are included and can be placed anywhere in the GameData folder. The updated toolbar icons with the clear background are also included. Otherwise everything should be the same as my previous release.

The gallery in the first post has a basic demonstration of how resource overlays work (I know the UI is terrible, it's mostly a place-holder).

I used the script you made to add SCANsat to all of the command modules and it only half works. It causes the toolbar icons to display, but the small map button shows a blank window like you haven't scanned anything, and the big map shows the cached map but it doesn't show any of the overlays like the anomaly markers (which is kind of what I want).

Did you turn the scanner on by right-clicking the command pod and pushing the 'open map' button?

@technogeeky, have you considered writing a shader? Feed it data and it spits out pretty rainbows! Let the GPU do its work and leave physics to the already overworked CPU.
