No Thrust / Chute Decent

Recommended Posts

Vanilla KSP, take pictures.

Drop a kerbal in a command pod (not chair!) from as high as you can without using parachutes or rockets to slow him down!

Make sure to record the velocity you were at upon hitting the ground.

I've been building "cages" around my command pods with different designs in the hopes that I can drop one at high speed without it killing the kerbal inside.

For use when your decent stage blows up and you want to land on (insert astrological body here) without being rubble.

1. you bmight want to look at the rules for making a challenge

2. you mean we need some kind of landing/crashing impact absorber like the NASA curiousity rover used when it landed on mars?

For Kerbin in the stock game, to be honest if you can survive a fall from a kilometre, maybe even lower, you can survive re-entry from orbit.

Also, if you don't want people submitting gliders you may need to tighten the rules.

This is known as 'Lithobraking' - and has been a challenge before, which wasn't too popular...

Try out a few of the existing challenges to get a hang of the types of rules and different types of challenges - and always remember to use the search to see if someone has already posted similar

Curiosity used a skycrane, you're probably thinking of what spirit and opportunity used.

Also, he didn't say what celestial body you were supposed to drop onto. I think you could easily manage this stunt on Gilly.
