Auto-refuel

Recommended Posts

A simple suggestion that would greatly help for re-usable SSTOs and other craft when budgets finally come into play in .24. The suggestion would be to simple have the craft's fuel be refuelled when the craft is still (0-0.4/s leeway) on the runway or on the Launchpad at KSC. What would people do if this would implemented and would you like it?

Gah. I've seen quite a few threads about the same subject. I'm not much of a spaceplane person myself, but I've gained enough know-how and whatnot from the forums, and have developed the following workaround:

It would be simpler to just recover the vessels and run them back through the SPH. Then you have the chance of putting in another payload, tweaking the structure for a better landing, so on and so forth.

In addition, you could always develop a refueling system using fuel tanks and the Klaw, or pre-placed docking ports.

This is not for sandbox, this is for career. In career, it would be assumed that ANY craft you launch, the cost of the parts would be taken from your "balance", as such. This would prevent you from re-launching these vehicles (and to keep from re-launching refuelling trucks). I don't really care about this for sandbox, it is more for career mode to save money.

You can presume the costs of the parts that you recover will be refunded upon recovery. This way, you can use the funds returned to you to re-launch a craft of the same time, except now back in launch configuration. While it is not exactly the same, it is still a valid way when funds come into play.

Or at least a portion of them. You should certainly only get partial refunds for partially-full fuel tanks.

Ah that is true. I did not think about that... because there would be less fuel in the parts (presumably that you actually flew) you would receive less money back. because your craft would then be re-launched with full fuel, you would assume it would cost slightly more than what you recovered. That way it would make you do missions to get the money to get the fuel to fly.

It's not clear that any reusability mechanic will be included in the stock economic model. If there isn't one, reusable craft may have to be serviced by ground crews (tanker trucks for refuelling, some sort of payload installation method) to reap any economic advantage.

There's a recent thread about how reusability might work here.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
