Based on an idea in this thread. To copy and paste directly from there:

How about being able to start the game with a number of scenarios? Players of the old Sim City are probably aware of things like the "Nuclear Disaster" scenario, "excessive traffic" scenario or "massive flooding" scenario. The game itself is still a city-building sandbox, but you start the game with an objective to achieve rather than just "build a metropolis".

The scenario you're on about could be called "Deep Impact" [edit: asteroid crashing into planet, for people who haven't read the original thread]. There could perhaps be another scenario based on a predicted massive Kerbolar flare. Maybe you could start the game with a fully functioning Duna base but they've had a critical malfunction and you have 60 days to get the parts to them and fix the problem?

The stock game probably would need to be modified quite a bit. I think having a "Scenario API" for modders would be part of it. But really, yes please.

It's also partly a discussion thread. Given I'm not suggesting that players be forced to pick a starting scenario and could just play the game "vanilla", are there any particular starting scenarios that people here would consider a fun way to start a career mode game?

Isn't this already a thing? There's a scenario system already in the game with a few stock scenarios, including one called "Impending Impact". Easy to make your own, they're just .sfs files like any other save.

Well. There's a few pre-set save files as you've mentioned. Not quite the same as the Sim City-like scenarios I was on about though. You can pretty much load one of the "scenario" save files and completely ignore the scenario, right up to letting a big asteroid smack into the planet with zero consequences asides you gaining an extra rock to play with.

True, but also remember that there have been scenarios since at least .21, and it's not a finished game yet. I definitely expect to see some more by the time it's actually officially a game, but KSP is a sandbox-style game, where it's the player's imagination at the heart of the game, not pre-made scenarios.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
