What is the deal with the ARM Patch?

Recommended Posts

I just bought and downloaded the game. There were two downloads -- the Full Game and the ARM Patch. What is the ARM Patch and what should I do with it? I explored it a little, and it seems to be more than a patch -- it contains all the files required to run the game; and when I run it, it seems identical to the full game. So, what's the deal?

I'm seeing 0.23.0 and the ARM patch on my downloads page, plus the installer.

0.23.0 is the version before asteroids and the NASA parts were added, and is 475 megs here, the ARM version is 483 megs, which would account for the extra content.

Not sure why you have the same build number in both.

I infer from your comments that the ARM Patch isn't v0.23.5.464 with some extra stuff. It's just v0.23.5.464, and there is no reason to use it if my install is already updated to that version. Thank you for the info.

My guess would be that the ARM patch is the update for people that already have the game, while the Full game is simply the full game, for people that don't have any updates yet

The ARMs patch is an update for 0.23.5 that fixes a bug in the 0.23.5 release.

Edit, Web search shows that the ARMs Patch is 0.23.5, but, I do know that an update to 0.23.5 came out a couple of days later when Steam automatically install it.

But OP said that both downloads give the exact same version number. (v0.23.5.464)

By your logic they should be different.

So no, that can't be the case

If that's so, then one of them (the one marked "Full") does not include the Asteroid Redirect Mission, and the one that says, "ARM patch" does.

OP still said that they both did.

So probably a redundand link

I don't know what ya'll are talking about, but the downloads are set up with two links. There isn't one marked "Full," but I can see how it looks that way.

The "Full" download was the 0.23.0 version. The "ARM Patch" is version 0.23.5. They are separate versions of the game as 0.23.5 includes the ARM gear, improved joints, and other things.

The ARMs patch is an update for 0.23.5 that fixes a bug in the 0.23.5 release.

I think what may be confusing about the ARM release is that the first release of 0.23.5 was 0.23.5.459. That version had several game breaking bugs that were quickly fixed via a "hot fix." That is what downloaded/updated and became version 0.23.5.464.

The "ARM Patch" is just labeled very badly. It simply is KSP version 0.23.5, it's the full game. "ARM" is the Asteroid Redirect Mission, what with all the asteroids and NASA parts. This has nothing to do with a patch to something.
