Hi all. Just lost another Kerbal on the Mun - not enough fuel to get back

and I couldn't revert for some reason.

Anyway. Is it better, if possible, to land on the part of the Mun that faces Kerbin? That way when I break orbit, I'll be closer to Kerbin? This is for future landings. I was doing fine up until this last one, then just didn't do something right and ended up with not enough fuel.

It doesn't really matter where you land next time, you'll most likely still need the same Dv in order to get back in orbit and go back to kerbin. If you takeoff on the opposite side, you'll just have to get into orbit and wait until you come around to the right side.

Here's where you burn when you want to get back to Kerbin. If you're going the other way around the Mun, burn at the opposite point (Far side of the Mun) facing prograde.

Excuse my cruddy Paint skills...

You're not supposed to burn TOWARDS Kerbin.

First get in orbit. Than burn prograde in the direction that picture Starwhip showed. Eventually you'll escape, burn a little more and your periaps in Kerbin orbit will get below the atmosphere. Just make sure it's below 20km and you'll land

Aim to get a maneuver mode like this;
