Isee-3

Recommended Posts

Problem is that they have extremely limited options with satellite that doesn't have an operational thrusters.

If anything - they could just collect data they is being beaconed... and that's pretty much all. ISEE is a very primitive satellite by modern standard, so there isn't much they can do with it.

Besides - I already posted their statement on a case, it's on a previous page, but let me post it again:

If the tanks are no longer pressurized with nitrogen gas however, the fuel cannot be forced to flow through opened valves and will not contact the catalyst.

Cowing said it was possible there was an extremely small leak in the system that allowed the gas to escape.

"Even if you had a leak where stuff came out only a molecule at a time, over the course of 36 years it would add up," Cowing said. "There may still be some stuff in there; it's just not enough."

Spacecollege received help from external sources to troubleshoot the probe's fuel systems after their call out for help, and have now a possibility to get it working once again. (Seems they had help from industry experts, and even managed to get in touch with a retired engineer who built similar fuel systems)

They are going to try out their new fuel systems tests july 16th. Lets keep our fingers crossed !

Ok, they started their attempt to clear the fuel lines. They are sending infos minute per minute on their twitter account right now, if some people want to follow it :)

Edit : it seems they are getting some results (they registered impulses from some thrusters they were trying (not all of them though).
