Jool Landing inquiry. Wondering what's been tried.

I see people who seem to have landed on Jool, but in almost all instances their ships explode. So.. wanted to ask.. has anyone tried making an egg for a lander.. and landing on jool? I'm talking like a diamond shaped structure reinforced upon reinforced by struts to try and resist the pressure.

It is possible to reach 0 altitude on Jool, but the planet has no solid surface, so you will fall right through and continue downwards. It is roughly about -100 m (I think) when weird things start happening. I've never personally tried to use a reinforced lander, but I can't imagine that it will hold up for long--the Kracken lives in the depths of Jool's atmosphere.

The game will kill your craft unless a rare bug happens where you actually hit ground

Last time I tried, my probe spontaneously disintegrated at 250m below Jool's surface. Since the probe ran out of batteries before transmitting the low atmosphere data, I'll have to send another one.

I seen a video on youtube and the probe crashed, destroying parts on it then bounced up, then fell again, crashed and the remaining parts were destroyed. think he got to - 5 meters

I just saw in the science library you can get 1200 science by landing on jool and taking a surface sample and returning with it.. question is.. how in the world to do that. I'm assuming if you got to 0 since someone planted a flag there,, if you eva'd without falling off you might be bale to pull off a surface sample. But then returning.. that'd be about impossible?

Problem is that Jool don't have a solid surface, at least not anymore, back in 0.19 it had a sort of surface but it broke anything who landed on it.

This surface was on -100 meter but is removed so now you go to -500 and explode same way as going to close to sun.

I have been down where many times.

Think surface sample from sun is also an node.

Simply, you fall through the surface where your craft will be crushed below -250 meters. Parachutes or not, it doesn't matter your decent speed. There is no solid surface to land on.

Game has a crash zone under the terrain, this is to crash your ship if you crash in multiple km/s perhaps under warp.

Jool and sun only have the crash zone.

its a bit stupid they changed it, might be because I submitted an bug report as I could not plant the flag on Jool.

That was the purpose of the balloons and the cables.
