Why cant dock this vessels?

Recommended Posts

In the pic, it can't be seen if one of the docking ports is mounted properly or not.

Anyway, try to line up those vessels better: they are massive, and docking magnetism could be too weak to properly align your ships. And remember to turn SAS off on both your ships: he doesn't like when magnetism tries to rotate the craft.

Simple-ish way to confirm your ships aren't faulty:

Backup your persistence file.

Find the ships and remove their fuel, making them much lighter.

Try to dock.

If this works, then your problem is just that the ships are too heavy for the docking ports to pull them together. Your solution then is to line things up more accurately, making sure you approach on a straight line towards the target, not obliquely or at an angle as the pictures above show.

Well, it's really hard to see in the shadows of your pics.

If you had other docking ports attached for launch, they can fake you out if they are hooked up funny. I will take your word for it that they are on correctly with no parts clipped into it.

Those ports are pretty small for that size components. If you do get them to dock, they will likely bend if you apply thrust later. (Unless uoy're just refuelling). Because of their size, you'll have to be extremely precise with aligning them as you approach. Even Sr ports can have a hard time if you come in at just the wrong angle and a heavy ship.

I will say it's also possible the docking ports are glitched (it's known to happen). You can try this checking this thread, which covers docking and undocking bugs. It might help you verify/fix the ports if they are broken. (What Cantab is getting at.)
