Please PLEASE add 'docked' lights to docking port

Recommended Posts

If each docking port had a set of three radial LED's which switched from blue (open) to green (docked) to red (disengaged), it would GREATLY help docking - especially when docking craft with multiple docking port arrays.

EDIT: Also, add a right-click menu button to reset a docking port, so that ports that get jammed in 'Disengaged' or falsely set to 'Docked' can be manually rebooted.

Jammed docking ports are game bug and need a game fix that'll make sure they don't get jammed, not a game feature to reset them manually.

Docking lights indicating ready/docked state would be nice but they only serve the purpose in case of multidocking as with docking using single ports it's obvious the port is docked. So while I sure wouldn't object if it was in game I think it will not get any high priority assigned.

Great idea, but what would be the difference between "open" and "disengaged"?

A disengaged docking port is prevented from docking again. It's to prevent an undocked vessel from immediately magnetizing back together.

As far as I know, at present a docking port is "disengaged" only relative to the one single docking port that it just undocked. It's still willing to magnetize any other docking port nearby even before you pull the initial docking port out of range.

which can still be problematic, even without bugginess.

Scenario: I have two docking ports, and manage to connect one but not the other because of a slight misalignment. I disconnect one, and the other immediately snaps closed. It would be nice to be able to reset the first one, so it can also try to reacquire without having to disconnect both, back all the way out of range, and then try the docking maneuver again.

This is particularly important with large (500+ part) ships.
