Full Throttle Hotkey

Recommended Posts

Few weeks ago someone made exactly this: forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/80943-100-throttle-key

That's all well and good, if he was asking for a mod. I understand that it's just an "In the meantime" thing, but people need to stop posting mods in response to sugeestions for the game.

As for the OP, I agree with a full throttle key being rather unusual not to have, with a kill throttle key already implemented.

The OP, while an excellent suggestion, is nothing compared to what I have just witnessed you say here today.

Seriously, though. It would probably take the developers thirty seconds to add this. Why is this not in the game? Why do we have a throttle-off key but not a throttle-max key? Are the devs trying to simulate the throttle-up times of real life rockets? If so, just add a throttle adjustment responsiveness like on jet engine (which I don't think should happen on rocket engines anyways).

And other should stop asking/suggesting the same thing over and over and over and over again!

Possibly it's a safety measure. Accidentally hitting X (as I have done often) doesn't do anything most of the time, and if it does I can easily start my engines up again and keep firing in my chosen direction.

But what if you're in deep space with your perfect encounter and you acidentally hit Z (or whatever button that is)? Instantly your engines go full throttle, most likely in some random direction that's hard to reproduce and cancel out. Bye bye encounter.

Then what can you say about Shift+Tab in map view?

Probably my suggestion would be harder to execute than second throttle hotkey, but how about removing "cut throttle" all together and replace it with engine control similar to one available with action groups allowing to stop (X key, double tap could be added to avoid accidental shutdown) active engines and restart (X key also) the engines disabled by this command - engines that was disabled manually or never triggered will not be affected.

This mechanic will make throttle and engine controls independent allowing for setting up any throttle setting before activating engines as well as making throttle more friendly with joysticks with physical throttle.

Other benefit of separating throttle from engine START/STOP would be a possibility of expanding restart mechanics, where of various types and sizes of engines could had different "cooldown" before it could be restarted again and different restart capabilities - some engines variants could work only once (like basic variants of some engines and massive first stage engines), some would take small amount of fuel during recharge or could be turn on/off right away.

Wait, what happens when you hit that key combination?

Dunno what with Steam but in game it steps through celestial bodies in reverse order (Tab goes forward). And if you happen to have navball open and engines activated and are in physics it sends you in random direction.
