The Official Kerbin Cup Tournament Thread - Final Entries Posted

No and yes. I actually built the whole thing, gave her a shakedown run, then disassembled it and moved it into position. I did not rebuild it afterwards.

Time constraints. Rowsdowser and I were planning to do an event, and while I was still hypothesizing challenges, I got a PM to have it ready in a couple days. I pulled two all-nighters prototyping before arriving at that.

I don't doubt it can be reconstructed. I do expect it to be rather difficult. :D

#EDIT: Remember, you can add parts if you want!

Alright, good to know. Adding parts IS the challenge right now... last few times I've summoned isolation kraken, and destroyed gravity and tracking on the part while trying to attach things to the docking ports. The claw seems more stable, though.

Why no eliminations this week? Gamemaster fiat?
I'll second wondering this. The challenges themselves were always going to be surprises but changing the rules halfway through the competition, and not saying why or even saying that you're going to say why, seems a bit dubious to me. It's the kind of thing I'd expect from a "reality" show, not a sports tournament.

EDIT: I also notice that the most popular entries from the previous round get "25 extra points", but there's no scoring system published.

I assume it's either because of anonymous videogate from last round, or because this challenge is so hard having 3 teams increases the chances of someone actually accomplishing it.

I'm suspecting that mayhap there was a wee bit of voting malfeasance on the behalf of one or more parties, and they decided to have something of a re-do.

That or the votes were just so close that they just decided not to call it.

Or, it could be to do with the Reddit teams' not-being-anonymous mistake.

This is lucky for Team Jedi, we'll be stepping up our game.

The force is more powerful than elimination.

Nope. It was a plot twist decided long ago :) I had some people PM me about the names in the videos and I told them that this week it'd be ok. This was why. This challenge, though - no names. It's time to get tough.

Ho-kay. First day of the challenge is complete. Has any team succeeded with assembly, or near so? Feel free to PM me pictures. Curiosity may be on Mars, but I'm still well within its lethal radius.

Our team has figured out how to do assembly (pretty much), and tomorrow we are expecting to be done. I'll send you pictures then. We're not doing it stock though - my brain, at least, can't fathom how to go about assembling them stock.

At this point in my science playtime, I'm running into the multiple docking port problem pretty badly. However, it's only been with ships I make, so hopefully the perfect alignment of the ship parts will make the boosters link to the central shaft nicely.

Multiple docking ports is still kinda sketchy...

As Xacktar said, we've the assembly going, looks like it's working, but it's not easy at all!!!

I think 90% of the challenge will be assembly, 5% of the challenge all the flying, and the 5% left, the landing back in KSC (this is going to be hard I guess!!)

Nah. The powered landing should be quite easy, actually. I am by no means any kind of pilot expert, and I manage those all the time. You'll note this Arkingthaad has only three outside columns instead of four, and each stack has a double-leg system. Which means even if you kinda slam it down, it'll probably just bounce.

I believe terminal velocity makes powered landings a lot easier :) Especially when that ship is empty of fuel, landing it shouldn't be hard.

Landing on the VAB - that will be hard.
