Collect All the Science! Anyone done it?

I've probably come close to getting all the science in one form or another in my main career save, although not necessarily manned landings for the surface samples, EVA reports and suchlike (i.e. only probe transmissions on one-way trips for some science types); that would require return trips from Eve and Tylo with manned vehicles, and that's something I've yet to attempt in a reliable fashion (although there's very little stopping me, I'm just busy failing to build planes right now).

Now we have the asteroids, there's unlimited science.

And to collect all the science from just one asteroid requires you to take it to all the possible situations. THAT would be quite the feat, considering it necessarily involves an ascent from either Eve or Jool.

It wouldn't be too bad, just use a small A class... I've got an A class that I use for science that only weighs 12 or something tons. Getting surface samples from Jool, now that's the hard part!

I shiver considering I'm going to end up having to do this since my goal is to completely exhaust all science. I just keep putting it off.

Considering the infinite science, though, wouldn't it be fair to just considering doing one of each class and call it tapped?

Rookie question, how does the unlimited science with asteroids work? Is it just like getting a pod/probe into each situation (high above, space near, landed etc etc) and then returning it to Kerbin?

The only experiment is a surface sample, for which you need to EVA a Kerbal close enough and right-click the asteroid. Make sure you have the whole asteroid in view or the right-click menu might end up off-screen. This surface sample is treated like any other experiment and thus returns different results for different situations. And yes, you need to return the sample, and in fact return multiple samples, to get the full science for each situation.

I lost track of how many i acummulated in time, got 3 carreer saves with all research unlocked, one Vanilla, one Heavy Modded one, and a "fiddling" save..

Granted, atm i lost a tat interrest in KSP, so taking a tat of a break, and patiently wait for the next update, and start all over again from scratch, going again for a full Techtree in several scenario's fully funded by a budget :-)

Someone made an excel sheet with all the science laid out. I can't find it anymore but the total science was estimated to be close to 63k (excluding asteroids). The stock game requires about 10k to complete the tech tree. As far as needing to take the asteroid to Jool & ect I don't think that is necessary. If you look at the code in the ARM pack I'm 90% sure the surface sample is the only thing it has. There is though different captions it can display but these only change for 2 or so scenarios near Kerbin.
