Did I miss something?

So I haven't played KSP for a while but got the itch again today. I downloaded some mods, installed them and loaded it up. I used to have issues with crashes due to a lack of RAM being used but it seems I can run KSP whilst it uses 6.2 gigs of RAM without any crashes...

I have upgraded my PC recently with more and faster RAM and a beast of a CPU but wow, it's running smooth as butter and using twice as much RAM as it used to without a hint of a problem.

So yeah, what did I miss please, I love it.

Here it is looking all lovely with clouds and nice effects and all the textures replaced, hmmm, beautiful.

6.2 Gigs of RAM utilized! Yay Squad :D

Edit: Also, got to love Bill's 'weekend look'.

It depends how long "a while" is but 0.23.5 certainly improved performance a lot - both raw performance and lots of operational tweaks. To be using 6.2Gb though you must have a Linux box, Unity on Windows is still 32-bit and, therefore, limited to 4Gb.

I'm running windows 7 pro with a hex core i7@4.2, and silly amounts of RAM. I had Google chrome open at the same time and task manager said I was using 6.2GB of RAM, so I think you may be mistaken.

It's why I felt the need to post as I am confused.

just to make sure: you ARE talking about RAM used by KSP.exe, not total RAM usage? The 32-Bit/4GB of KSP on Windows of course applies only to KSP itself, it doesn't care about total RAM usage. Total RAM usage is only limited by how much you have physically installed. And of course OS/Motherboard limitations, but I'm assuming you knew what you were doing when upgrading your PC, and you shouldn't be able to hit Windows 7's RAM cap with a regular PC.

OK, so maybe I am too stupid for the internet, unsurprisingly I am still confused. So KSP.exe is using 2,750,124 K, (which seems low with B9, hot rockets, all planets and moons with new textures, suits and heads as well as clouds and auroras from the EVE mod not to mention full graphics settings), and with no other programs open the system is using 6GB. The other processes on the list add up to around another 2 to 300,000 at most. Does Windows use around 3GB silently or something?

Just saw the 'cached' RAM is 4396MB as well. Which is more confusing again, those numbers don't seem to add up. Not that I understand what 'cached' actually means.

So no, poster(s) above is/are not wrong, it is me, as usual.

Thanks for the replies, back to my cave.

Are you running steam version or plain? If steam, that will take up some RAM too... (goes and checks what his RAM usage is...)

EDIT: Windows 7 Ultimate, 6Gb RAM, nothing but Steam and 4 desktop widgets open (Clock, Calendar, Network Meter, CoreTemp with CPU usage monitor) and I'm using 1442mb.

With KSP open (using KAS, KAC and MechJeb) and in-game; 3121mb, so with all the extra mods and things I guess you might have something running in windows background that is using some extra RAM somewhere!
