While I will not get to compete in the Kerbal Cup...

... there's nothing preventing me from doing it anyway! And since I'm not in the contest, I can post pictures of my work in progress without breaking a rule!

Here's a sneak peek at what I'm doing...

Behold, the horrifying reality of my lack of artistic ability!

That's the best part about KSP. You can bolt things together that make zero sense and nobody can stop you.

Good luck, contestants! I'll be watching your work with only moderate jealousy!

The really fun part of this game is questions come up at strange times that nobody could ever have predicted.

Here I am, on my work "weekend", 4AM in the morning, and I'm asking myself, "Now how do I put together a recognizable pelvis?"

So the idea of the current challenge is to launch a trophy into space, right? Well, Whack don't do cups. I decided on a statuette trophy. And what a better trophy than an angry robot with a shoulder slung rocket? One that can actually be launched later on?

*grins*

That mess around it is a trick I learned aeons ago. Put a metric ton of "stickers" all over it. Stickers are radial decouplers, with some trusses set to lie flush. Run struts in between. This is part of the Whack-magic that allows the launch of incredibly misshapen payloads.

The containers that comprise the robot are empty. The fuel tanks comprising the rocket he's holding are totally full.

I'm prouder of this thing than I probably should be haha! I may even get it in orbit before the sun comes up.

#EDIT: He's supposed to be kneeling on the base. It looks awful. I know.

#EDIT2: The whole point of "launching" it was to see if gravity would shred it. Wanted to see how much more reinforcement I'd need. Turns out none, but I'll probably add a bit more before continuing.

You are crazy. And way to put the pressure on the "official" teams. THey have to be better than this now and I think thats pretty freaking cool. Be sure to post a vid of you getting it into orbit :D

Probably won't make orbit, but I finally got a number of issues resolved. Structural resiliency complete. Load balancing done... asymmetrical launches are always fun. Control issues fixed. I need to make a few changes (can't do a straight pushdown decoupling, so tops of rockets will change) but I'm definitely within striking range of orbit.

This is looking insane. Though you're not in the official cup, some of the construction techniques you pioneered will no doubt be used by those who are. So you're not just a spectator. You're the Obi-wan.

So I did a full burn just to see how far I could get.

Funniest. Gravity turn. Evar.

So it turns out I made it to space. All I need do now is fix the outside rockets, put a core and battery on the shoulder-rocket so it'll launch, then add boosters.

I'm on my way to being done.

Mother of god...

Are you saying that shoulder rocket can actually be launched? It's not just welded to the statue?

Why don't you participate? You could be a one man team. You basicly already won. I don't see how anything can beat that

Currently conducting orbit attempt. Last one for now. If this fails, I'm takin' a nap. 7AM here heh.

Jeb looks pretty happy to be in a rocket on a robot on a rocket!

He basically missed the registration deadline, as far as I understood.

Though as you can see, mere contrievances like "registration" cannot stop the Whackjob :D
