Questions about maneuvers and the map

Recommended Posts

I have been away from KSP for a while, and am now having a blast trying the Career Mode.

I have a few questions about maneuvers and the map.

Is there a way to look at the encounter part of a maneuver while adjusting it?

Is there a way to select one of the "commands" of a maneuver when I am zoomed out so all the icons are on top of each others?

E.g. I am trying to fly to the Mun, so I create a maneuver, zoom out so I can see the Mun, then try to adjust the maneuver so I get an encounter with a close encounter periapsis. If I zoom out so I can see both Kerbin and Mun, the icons are so small that it is difficult to select them, I often grab the wrong one.

Is there a way to make this easier?

Also, is there a way to disable for instance flags from the map, so I don't target them and not the maneuver when trying to manupulate it?

Are there some advanced tutorials for maneuvers available somewhere?

I have no problems with simple maneuvers such as Hohman transfers, but could use some help with more complex stuff.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give a fellow astronaut :)

You can enable/disable Flags/Debris/Bases/etc. in a small menu that pops up top center if you point your mouse there in map view. The issues with editing maneuver nodes I have too and have not found a solution yet.

The Way KSP Models its orbits your burn for the Mun will more than likely be on the night side of Kerbin, (Though there is a good chance of it being on the day side too) but what I like to do is the set the Mun up on the right side of my screen, and then rotate my view so that the Sun is out of the picture (Either eclipsed by Kerbin or Behind the Camera) this allows me to see both the Muns orbit and Kerbin at the same time (Because all I'm really concerned about with the Mun is the Orbit) Then I plop a maneuver node on my orbit and adjust.

As far as "resizing" the node, I know if you close it before zooming the camera and then reopen it it will open with a size relative to the new camera position. (i.e if you zoom out it will open larger than previous)

You can hit Tab to cycle through celestial bodies starting with the sun and moving outwards. This will focus the map view on your selected celestial and give a good view of what'll happen in the selected SOI. Backspace will return camera focus to your ship (make sure you're in map view- backspace is also the abort button!)

I usually zoom close to my destination manually to check what direction I'm entering the SOI from and how far above or below the plane I am, and then tab to focus on my target to fine tune the maneuver.

Along with that you can hit SHIFT+TAB to cycle backwards (DON'T HAVE THE NAVBALL OPEN IN MAP MODE!)
