What does KSP.exe has stopped responding mean?

Recommended Posts

When I load up KSP it goes through the screen when it loads up all the files and then comes to a black screen with a loading sign. This loading sign then moves a little bit and stop's. I then need to press control, alt and delete and it says KSP is not responding, I then press end now and the computer then says: KSP.exe is not responding and that windows is looking for a solution to the problem. The computer then closes KSP. Is there any way to stop this, I already use the aggressive version of active texture management and have a few mods installed.

I hope you can help as I can no longer play the game. Thanks.

Mods really slow down the time it takes for the game to load. And KSP takes ages without any mods. So firstly, give it plenty of time, because it might just be taking ages.

If that doesn't work, then remove your mods one by one and try to load the game between each removal. Once it works, you've found your culprit. There's a bunch of parts mods which I can't seem to use for these reasons, but the main utility mods all seem fine (MJ, alarm clock etc).

You were right, I let it load for a few minutes or so and it worked so it turned out I was being impatient.

When a program is reported to be "not responding" by the kernel of the OS, it means mostly it is in an interruptible "loop" like mostly hardware duty like reading harddrive data made by interruptions which are the highest priority elements in modern computer and the OS itself can't do anything about it, even if you roughly kill the program, it have to wait til the hardware has completed its current job queue before getting control back.

The most noticeable occurrence of this might be the reading and processing of the 300 Mb assets file into KSP_Data folder (I guess it's bodies + KSC, or just all textures used by them), even with a SSD.
