How to reduce the size of a model

Recommended Posts

Helloo...well, thats a kind of..fascinating/embarassing:sealed::D:

I made an engine.

Yeah, its model size is very big (~2.2mb), and as I wanted to attach it in the editor there was a extrem high lag. KSP crashed after I pressed the Launch button. So my question would be if its possible to reduce the model size anyhow..?

Otherwise I will make a new one based on this, just with not so many Polys...

Ps.: The engine was made in Blender, if that helps you

what's the triangle count on that?

you probably need to make a lower triangle count mesh that approximate it's shape as closely as possible. Shoot for something around 7k triangles for start. and bake out the textures onto the lower res model.

It is most likely to be the collider(s) (too complicated) which cause the issue. I have a similar one with 18 convex colliders for a single part, part in KSP meaning, FPS already ruined in VAB !

In the opposite way, a very high-poly objects (40000 if I'm remember it well) cause no noticeable slowdown.
