Need more hotkeys

Recommended Posts

So I have run out of custom# keys. Is there a way to add more?

Either changing a file or perhaps a mod?

I would like to have CTRL + #, ALT + #, ALT GR + #, SHIFT + #. i would not mind being able to bind hotkeys to letters and symbols either. Everything helps!

The base game is limited to 10 action groups, although as mentioned you can re-bind the keys they are assigned to.

If you need more groups, the Action Groups Extended mod is the only way to add more that I am aware of.

Disclaimer: I am the author of this mod, however you are not the first person to ask for more action groups and I wrote it to fill the need for having more action groups available.

That is true yes, there are 17 "action groups" total.

However, only 10 of those are the "action groups" that are bound to keys 1 - 10 and intended to have other actions assigned.

The other 7 groups all have special behaviors assigned to them or actions automatically assigned to them when a part is placed.

Gear group: Landing legs toggle action automatically assigned

Lights group: Lights toggle on/off automatically assigned

Brakes: Brake action on wheels automatically assigned, only on while 'B' key held down. (This means pressing B key is the activate group command and releasing the B key is the deactivate group command.) Can still double click the on-screen icon to keep the brakes engaged.

RCS: Despite the name, does not turn RCS blocks on/off via the action groups system. This is done in code to activate/deactivate the RCSThrustTransforms on the RCS block models. (I think that is how they work, I do know that in the editor, if you place an RCS block and go to the Action editor, the RCS block is not assigned to the RCS group.)

SAS: Turns the SAS system on/off. (Same as the RCS blocks, the SAS modules do not have an actual action assigned to the SAS action group.)

Stage: Again, nothing assigned to this in the editor, but I assume anything assigned to this action group will trigger when Spacebar (the Staging key) is pressed.

Abort: This group actually works the same as the 1 to 10 action groups. It has nothing assigned by default and no special behavior tied to it.

If you do want to use these groups as action groups, I would recommend the Abort, Gear, and Lights action groups. Just remember there are actions that assigned to these groups by default.

The Brakes, RCS, SAS, and Stage groups all have special behavior assigned to them and I would not recommend using them as regular action groups.
