The second attempt. The first time the rocket apparently thought that the fastest way to orbit was through Kerbin . Still had some fuel to spare but I had to ditch the final stage. That whole Kessler Syndrome thing is just a crock anyway,like Global Warming, right...

UPDATE: Tried to send a crew up...Jeb was getting awful lonely. Unfortunately, disaster struck when the vessel collided with its own stage . The crew survived and was close enough to transfer via EVA but there was only enough room for Bob and Bill, poor ____ (I dont remember his name) "volunteering" to stay in the now parachute-less pod to await rescue.

Half an hour later, I had assembled this:

In what can only be described as a "holy **** That actually worked" moment, the aptly (though not, I admit, creatively) named Rescuer, grabbed and deorbited our brave kerbal:
