How to make a part be destroyed by high dynamic pressure?

Recommended Posts

I've just begun making my first KSP mod, and I'm somewhat stuck on an important part.

Namely, I'm trying to make a part that has to be deployed via KAS, as it would snap apart in the stresses of flying in an atmosphere.

However, I'm not even sure how to begin with making and configuring the “falling apart†animation. Could anyone offer any advice (or, better yet, point me to a tutorial)?

Just for reference, I'm using Blender for 3D modeling.

You may want to take a look at solar panels, they all brake when speed in atmosphere is over the speed resistance (crashTolerance) defined in the part config.

Or it is a part of ModuleDeployableSolarPanel module.

Some parts include also breakingForce & breakingTorque parameters.

Thanks for the help! I was able to import one of the stock solar panels to blender, which I think I should be able to copy. I tried RemoteTech2 as well, but I'm still not sure how they got their antennas to animate, let alone fall apart :)

Um, this is not a thing that has *anything* to do with the model, other than the *particular* case of solar panels, whose *module* supports breakability. That's why we've been pointing you to code.

Now, the Solar Panel module *does* support animation when it breaks, and that's something you'll be able to check out on the panel. But unless the only things you want to make breakable are solar panels, this is a dead end for you.

My internet has been spotty (amazing what a dying clock battery can do to a computer), so I couldn't actually see the code you were pointing me to. Hence, the mistakenly digging around in RemoteTech [and now feeling like a complete fool :)]
