New Old Guy {New Shuttle Scent}

Hello All,

I've been playing/learning KSP since May 3, 2014 (my 37th B-day) and I've been sneaking around here without registering for about 2 weeks because, for the life of me, I can't seem to figure out how to get out of Mun orbit*.

I have no mods and I fly by hand. I fly in real life by hand [but, not to space], so it only seems natural. I've seen too many auto-pilots fail and WAAAYY to many 'auto-pilot input errors'...if you catch my drift. *stage whisper ... A LOOSE SCREW BEHIND THE YOKE... /stage whisper* :D

Anyway. Love this sim. I'm addicted, actually. And, I am learning a lot from this crowd. Thank you, all.

List of things I'm struggling with, currently:

LKO meetups [i fly by at >10KM and/or >100m/s] Node arrows still confound me.

Leaving Kerbal SOI in a predicable manner. I end up in Kerbol orbit, most times.

Landing without at least SOME horizontal movement. All my Mun landings are a circus act with at least one cartwheel - performed at 2-3m/s, slow-mo.

I don't know how other folks are getting video of their KSP runs. Though, I admit, I'm not computer savvy, anymore. Ever since they introduced this little "mouse" thingy on the side.

I'm pretty sure that thing is a fad, though. I'll just wait it out. :P

*I figured out with the forums' help! YAY!

Welcome aboard!

Rendezvous are a tricky bit, but I'll try to lay down some knowledge. :D When you target a craft for intercept, your navbal will have an extra option at the very top of it, clicking the display may change it to 'Target' instead of 'Orbit' or it will change on its own once you get close enough to your target for rendezvous. That means that the prograde and retrograde symbols on your Navbal now are in relation to your target instead of in relation to Kerbin. Thus you simply find the right marker (Yellow marker with the tri-cross inside) Burn facing it and your relative speed to target will shrink to zero. Your ship is now hanging out parallel-ish to your target. From here you re-orient to face your target and do smaller burns and jumps in the same manner trying to get close to it.

Leaving Kerbal is fairly simple. You leave the planet while in orbit closer to the sun and your orbit is counter to solar orbit so you'll fling against the flow and go deeper toward EVE and Moho. Leave orbit while facing with the flow of solar orbits and you will be flung outward toward Dres, Jool and Eloo. (Manuever nodes will be needed to really aim anywhere and you should also check out the guides on Orbital Transfer Windows for the best way to get to each planet)

Hey, thanks, Xactar.

It took me three read-throughs to figure out all of what you said but, they all make sense, now. I didn't know about the Navball clickie thing.

I'm going to check that out right now (after 'Under the Dome' is over). :D
