The chase car is standard procedure during U2 landings. The chase car is driven by a veteran U2 pilot.

Landing a U2 is extremely difficult, the chase car pilot is literally talking the U2 pilot to the ground.

A U2 only has to wheels, not counting those on the wings, which have to be tilted in that direction for them to contact the ground. So you basically have to stop and then just let the plane tilt to either side.

Edit: which is why it's extremely difficult to land.

Well it is basically a giant powered glider after all.

How long does it take to get to full altitude, it's got a relatively small engine doesn't it?

Probably takes a while, but look at that ground roll on takeoff! It's got a pretty powerful engine for its weight, I think. Definitely one of the most powerful motorgliders around!

Great video, I especially liked when you could see the speed on the left side, and it read 105 kts / mach 0.7!
