Girlbal

Maxmaps has confirmed a while back there will be female Kerbals in game, and that they will be more goofy than sexy. I don't know why people draw boobs on an alien, not even most mammals have fat-filled sacks that house the mammary glands. Here's my rendition of the Female Kerbal, which Max had said "Girlbal".

It's more or less a male kerbal traced from Kerbalizer, with the following modifications:

long hair

eyelashes

rounded head

shortened mouth

lipstick

darker, colorized, eyeshadow. (Kerbals already have a little bit of eye shadow on their texture, but it's more of a shading thing than makeup.)

thinner neck

thinner fingers

longer, thinner legs

slightly shorter torso to accomodate longer legs.

Let's not get into the discussion of the female Kerbals, just this piece of fanart.

Looks perfect to make a model out of.

Yeah, I am really much better with drawing solid machines and shapes, so when it comes to Kerbals, I'm great at it. Kerbals are kind of almost modular in appearance. Clearly separated sections of the body, for instance.

The reason for that is that breasts are associated with femininity, so they give the viewers yet another way to recognize a humanoid character as female. Kerbals are indeed aliens, but they aren't really intended as any kind of speculation on alien anatomy. They're just cartoon characters. Quite simple ones, too, so such details can be quite important.

Of course, there are many more things that can do that perfectly well on their own - like hair, makeup or a smoother, more rounded appearance. But that's basically why people draw boobs on cartoon aliens. Assuming that they aren't simply perverts à la DeviantART, of course.

I get that, but I think femininity can be given with facial features better than fat-filled breasts. For instance, I have a friend who is completely flat-chested, but she's still clearly female.

My headcanon says that Kerbals are similar to AMphibians, but with Cyanosymbiotic releations, making them like Amphibianoid lichens. However, I don't want to enforce that idea on everyone, especially Squad. THis is meant to be a literal drawing of what a tracing of a 3D model of a Girlbal would look like.

Yes, those aren't really necessary. It's just another useful symbol that can be added to a cartoon character if its creator would want to.

I'd probably skip them myself, or at least make them very discreet. Space suits erase most contours anyway.
