I have repeatedly taken up and dropped kerbal.

The reason being, I have trouble with the whole learning curve. Not because it's difficult, because it gets repetitive and boring.

I have no problem getting into space.

I have no problem getting to Mun.

I have no problem landing. Except when it goes wrong.

And that's it. It takes an hour to get back to the point where I'm trying to land.

Doing the part that I have down and at this stage is boring. For the tenth time. Because I accidentally pressed the wrong button.

This should be a priority addition because it's bad game design.

Yes. It drives home the "if you fail, people die in space" but you know what I'm not doing? I'm not using a launch simulator. I'm playing a game.

The choices when you crash are "revert to launch" or "don't revert to launch".

They should be "revert to last save point".

You can use F5 to quicksave (what you're talking about) and F9 to load the last quicksave. Alternatively, You can use [mod]+F5 to quicksave under a certain name, and [mod]+F9 to load again. [mod] represents a certain button on the keyboard that allows you to do certain things, like physics warp in orbit, or duplicating parts. On any windows KSP, it's alt. For apple and linux, I'm not sure (it might be the 'command' button or something, not used any apple device much before).

Let's say you want to go to the mun. You can press alt+f5 to quicksave in orbit and save it as '(Mission name) orbit'. You do this because, assuming you have a docking port on board, if you don't have enough fuel to land on the mun, then you can always save in kerbin orbit, dock a resupply module and refuel the ship. This is pointless if you already have a fully fueled vessel.

You do a transfer maneuver to go to the mun. Not much point doing anything here, but when you get into orbit, then you can NQS (name quicksave, as I've just called it) to say '[mission name] munar orbit'. You can then land on the surface and NQS there as 'landed'.

Go into munar orbit or, if you're on the trailing side of the mun (if viewed from kerbin, it's the right hand side of the mun), just launch vertically. NQS there for your final quicksave and re-enter kerbin. Yay!

Welcome to the game.

If you want to practice landing, I suggest you switch your focus from Mun, to Minmus.

It takes a little more fuel to get in orbit around Minmus as Mun (but you can already do that), but due to the lower gravity of Minmus, it is easier to land (and this also means the total amount of fuel needed for both moons is rhoughly the same)
