Could someone do a calculation for me? and maybe show me how?

Recommended Posts

the calculation that i want done is this:

how much fuel do 8 LV-1R engines need to burn for exactly the same length of time (at full throttle) as one RT-10 solid booster.

and the same question but for 8 Rockomax 24-77 engines.

I would love to know how to work this out for myself, so if you could show me your working, and what equations you used that would be great

It seems like a simple fuel flow rate problem.

From the Wiki :

Fuel con.sumption (LV-1R) (1 atm) 0.37 l/s

(vacuum) 0.28 l/s

I'm going to round to .35 for the purposes of this calculation. Meaning that 8 LV-1Rs uses about 2.8 l/s

The Fuel consumption for an RT-10 is (1 atm) 15.09 l/s

(vacuum) 14.14 l/s

Again, I'm going to round to 14.5 l/s The Burn time for the RT-10 is (1 atm) 28.7 s Or about 29 sec.

(vacuum) 30.6 s

So, our 8 LV-1Rs need about 28 units of Liquid Fuel, and an appropriate amount of Oxidizer, but for what it's worth you might as well just reduce the thrust of the RT-10.
