You're most welcome, I'm glad you found it useful :D

Spanner and I have been on a bit of a mission to get as much info out as possible, and we seem to be having some success at de-mystifying the whole thing.

No, not at all! Maybe a Tuesday next time?

I went for Thursday because I don't normally ride on Thursday (even horses need a day off), but its no major bother to switch that around.

I forgot to add this before but I have noticed on other Twitch streams that past broadcast get deleted automatically. You can download the past broadcast from Twitch with a tool they have on there site, http://www.twitchtools.com/video-download.php you enter this url in the Twitch video link http://www.twitch.tv/kerbalfoundries/b/555573038

I'm posting this because it would be a shame to lose such a nice informative video to something silly like that. Thanks again lo-fi for this awesome tutorial!

That's another thing I missed in the tutorial: Wheel rotation axis. You've obviously figured it out, though.

Don't worry, my first model didn't even look as good as that and I made all those mistakes myself :D

That's the right way to go about it IMHO: start small and work your way through. Browsing round, I think there are a fair few people who launch in, make something really cool, then get frustrated when they can't rig it into something workable in-game.

Because the wheelcollider starts out at the top of its travel and moves down from there. The SuspensionTraverse GameObject gets moved downwards by ModuleWheel as the collider travel extends up to its limit, and in the classic setup, all your movable stuff is hung off that GO. The 'neutral' position is ill defined by the spring strength, the weight upon it and the length of the suspension travel, so this would be rather hard to model for.

downloaded the twitch session, didn't realize it was in 3 parts. watched it a few times. Very helpful. Thanks for doing it!

I'm taking a stab at landing gear that deploys laterally. I think I've worked around the Left/Right mirror thing without any special plugins. KSP doesn't mirror in the X/-X; but it does mirror in the Z/-Z direction. so I just rotated the lateral gear by 90 degrees so it's aligned to Z/-Z axis. in SPH, rotating it to proper lateral position, the opposite side will attach correctly mirrored, animation as well. Looks wise just have to model forward/backward agnostic for suspension linkages and such. only catch is LandingLight, they are direction dependent and will look flipped.

edit1 well, I spoke too early looks like. trying to cheat the wheelcollider is bad idea.

edit2, success! lateral deploy landing gears! now I just need to sort out wheelcollider suspension. :D Note: WheelCollider operates in World space, not local.

Shucks....the stream is no longer available for downloading. Any chance to still view it?

Edit: Can't find this video anywhere. I don't get it...why take the trouble to document something like this only to have it vanish?
