In-flight craft into .craft

Recommended Posts

Can you tell me, is it possible to save your in-flight craft (landed on kerbin) into .craft file.

I made mistake and I saved other craft with same name as that craft.

Auto-saved ship don't work (i made other flight before)

I heard that I can use persistant file to dig it out, but I'm pretty bad with codes.

Here's file anyway: LINK

Craft name - Lifter

I lost this craft by mistake, so I really wanted to bring the same craft it in one piece for my YT viewers and ksp forum people.

If there no one would find a way to ressurect it in 24h, then I'll give up and change status for answered.

I downloaded your persistent file and loaded it up, and looking in the tracking station at what ships you have on KSC, there isn't one called Crane. Looking at what there is, I am assuming the one called Lifter is the one you need.

Yea, sorry, you're right

It's very difficult to pull a .craft file out of a save file (nearly impossible). You can't just copy/paste the section over because the structures are different.

I say it's nearly impossible, but it is doable for smaller craft. For something large and complex, it would take a very long time by hand and you need knowledge of how both files are structured, plus it would be prone to error. Truthfully it would take less time to recreate the ship in the editor than to do this method (for either smaller or larger craft). I don't believe there are any mods yet that do this (or at least I haven't heard of one).

Sorry,

Go it via sub-assembly or go to the VAB folder and copy it, then paste it in the SPH folder.

I see that you don't get it...

I'll explain it to you :)

It's parked near runway. I can go to Tracking Station and ride it, or take Kerbal from runway and enter inside.

There is no craft in SPH or VAB because I lost file (overwrited)

So how is it parked near the runway? Erhm...Ok try to fly it for a long time until it saves as "auto-saved ship"

Tortoise,

KSP stores craft that you build in the VAB/SPH into a file that is labeled .craft. When you launch the ship, KSP saves that same .craft structure as the Auto Save.craft. Which means any time you launch a ship, this ship is overwritten. No amount of driving around will make the game create a new Auto Save.craft. It's only created when clicking on the launch button in the editors.

Once the ship is launched, the way KSP stores the ships structure is different than in .craft files. That structure is what is stored in the quicksave and persistence files.

Mareczex333's problem is that he launched the ship, and already launched another ship after it. So the Auto Save.craft no longer has that ship in it. He also doesn't have the original design saved in the SPH/VAB. So he's asking how to recreate a .craft file using the information stored in the persistence and quicksave files, which is a complex process.

No craft object parser currently exists. This is currently something on my todo list but, I don't see myself getting around to it this year even. So, the short answer is no, not until someone sits down to do the programming which will walk through the craft object in-game and rebuild the craft file from the programming construct.

That looks very similar to a stock crane i saw on Reddit. Not sure if its the same one. If its not it might be a good place to start from check here.

It was reacreation of my crane. My post is there: http://www.reddit.com/r/KerbalSpaceProgram/comments/2c4vk6/stock_crane_with_download/

Someone told me that I gave bad link for download and he was right.

It's strange that just one person from YT noticed that
