I have 3 questions about posting on here.

1)When I first joined I read a rule that Stated that If we wanted to posted an image with a posting, we need to use a 3rd party photo-sharing website like photobucket, imgur etc. But I’m not sure if this holds true for another files like Error Log.log or can we post them directly from our computers?, if we need a 3rd Party websites for files, any suggestions.<o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

2)Is there a Tutorial to help Newbies (like me) to the read the Error Log so we can learn to where to look for the error in question?<o:p></o:p>

<o:p></o:p>

3)How much can we post in a just a normal text posting? (like this one)<o:p></o:p>

Thanks,

1. No, sadly you cannot post images straight from your computer. You must upload them on another website then use a link to put them on a post. I personally use Imgur. It's fast, easy to use, and gives you a direct link for your images.

2. No clue. I'm not good at all that technical stuff.

3. As much as you want, I suppose. As long as what you're saying is productive and not spam I think you'll be fine. But that's my personal philosophy, someone else might disagree with me.

Welcome to the forums!

You kinda missed his question there, mate

1. I think that they want you to use a 3rd party site for all kind of files, wether they be pictures or text files.

2. If you look at the log file, you should be able to have an understanding on what it says. It pretty much writes black on white what happened.

3. No idea what the limit could be, but I've seen some pretty lenghty stuff. Just keep it sensible and constructive ;)

Good follow-up questions!

1. Some good websites for hosting logs are PasteBin, JustPasteIt, or Dropbox.

2. If you're looking through the output log, it can be confusing. You want to look for the sections that start with an "Exception" or sometimes "Error" – ignore anything about ground contact errors.

3. Use your best judgment for how long one post should be. If you think you do need to post something really long, you can use the SPOILER tag. This code:

[SPOILER=Spoiler Title]Spoiler content[/SPOILER]

makes this spoiler:

Spoiler content

1) has been covered by the others, apparently.

2) Not really. If you have a look through your logs, generally errors will either be accompanied by the keywords "Warning", or more commonly "Exception". Be aware that warning-errors are usually pretty unimportant. Exceptions have the potential to crash the game entirely. Errors usually occur during the loading sequence (beginning part of the file) when loading plugins, or near the end, especially where the game crashes. It's a lot to read through and look into, but since most of it is very repetitive, you can simply scroll through much of it quite quickly, stopping on any bits that disrupt the overall pattern and see what it's saying there to figure if it's an error or just an info line. There are warnings all through common logs -- notably some missing WheelColliders on loading; those are unimportant, they don't break anything. You've also got HighLogic warnings whenever the scene changes (Main Menu to Space Center; VAB to Flight scene, etc.) which are also quite normal. If anything serious occurs, you're looking for either the keyword "crash" or "exception". Generally speaking, most common errors will give you some general information on the code routines that caused the error -- the routines are usually named fairly plainly, so if you can take a good guess at what the code methods actually are supposed to be doing, you can begin to get an idea of what's going awry. :)

3) I think the character limit for posts is somewhere around 20,000-30,000 characters. One of the admins could tell you for sure.
