Something that's annoyed me for a very long time (map-view camera focus)

Recommended Posts

When controlling an orbiting craft in map view, it is extremely easy to double click on a celestial body and switch your camera view to it. However, when in (especially low) orbit, it is nearly impossible to switch the view back to whatever craft you are currently flying.

Proposed fix: create a toolbar UI (yes, stock toolbar) button that opens up a drop-down menu of celestial bodies, and then you can click the one your craft is orbiting. That then drops down a second menu with a list of the crafts orbiting it. Double clicking should then switch your camera focus to the vessel in question. The craft you are currently flying should be displayed at the top of this list, or even at the top of the planetary bodies list.

Backspace has the issue of being bound to fire the abort stage by default.
Like, "Abort Mission"?

You can't use action groups from Map View, so there's no conflict between Backspace as Focus View and Abort.

That's almost as good as Shift-Tab to cycle backwards.

(for the uninitiated: just try Shift-Tab in map view and see what really happens)

Yeah, I got caught by that a couple times. Then I just started using Right Shift+Tab. You can also close the Map View navball to disable ship controls.

Neither works for me. RightShift+Tab acts as just Tab, and the throttle goes up even when the navball is down.

It would be good for the key bindings to be looked at. Having to shift-scroll in the vab to zoom in leads me to do the same in flight which means I throttle up. The backspace issue and abort also needs looking at (hadn`t thought of that one, I don`t use the abort function)

Some consistency in the view controls between screens would be good.
