What's with the tire-pedoes?

I was actually looking for name for my missiles, That's Brilliant! From now own I shall call them that. Tirepedoes! catchy

*Captain on the bridge amidst an intense battle*

TIREPEDOES AWAY!

They have high impact tolerance of 100 so they are good warheads. What to see what those could do? I have an airbreathing version as a missile. I've used zekes QE II ship as target before. I've even tried it on the T-95 tank and M4 sherman tank to test it's effectiveness. I'll post a bucketload of pics.

So... I've started working on some proper dreadnought-type craft...

This is an un-armored proof of concept using the new gizmos. Expect a proper, combat-ready fleet very, very soon.

I thought that was an anti-capital ship missile lol

That's an awesome shape you got there as silhouette.

The tank im working on has amazingly strong armour. Wanna test anyone? Mind you, dont go fast, turn fast or brake. Use S to slow down. The wheels will break and you will be stuck. Use a pilot and two engineers. The two engineers in the gun commanders positions. If the wheels break, use the enginneers to repair.

I'll include your tank later and test it. Keep updated on this post for more missile test pics.

To anyone here interested in tank battles here's some of missile tests on zekes T-95 and M4 Sherman using the tires as warheads. They are awesome. I used to rely on weight but now I have a powerful warhead.

So, while the pic from earlier is the ultimate goal for my KSP military ship development, I have been working on a Heavy Destroyer that will act as my first true supercap-type ship.

In all likelihood, it'll be finished tomorrow. I hope... :P

EDIT: The shadow is of the ship without an outer hull. It's final shape may likely be semi-rectangular.

Lol, the sherm got wrecked because she was designed to look like an M4, not be well armored. The T95 is designed to take shots, and so it fared much better - i'd say all three of them were still alive, abeit de-tracked.

Hmm...I feel I am falling behind in the arms race, but I was relying on battle data to help me improve my vessels...NEED...MORE...DATA!

Also, I think I shall likely be pulverized in the Duna battle, or at least outgunned, considering that my fleet is armed with almost entirely I-Beams, and from what limited testing I was able to do they do not appear to make for extremely effective missiles.

My fleet was throw together in a few hours. All really light and way to under armed and armoured. Also, to start an arms race, build the fastest round that can still smash fuel tanks behind a wall of structral panels. I have a test rig i will post tomorrow. It has a wall of panels a distance away from a fuel tank that has a strucural fuselage and an rgu. The round should be at least super sonic but still be able to destroy the fuel tanks without just passing through.

I can't wait to see it when it's done.

i just had an idea for a spaceship that could maybe be useful. i cant try it because i have a sucky computer, but the idea is to make the ship a giant sphere or cube, because especially for the long skinny ships, they seem to splinter in half often. but with a sphere/cube, there is no "weak bit".

would it maybe work?

How many parts? How much D/V? How many torpedoes can it carry?

Armour and weapons aren't the only thing to consider when making these ships.

Here is my ship, check out the stats. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/90278-Naval-Battle-Club?p=1615811&viewfull=1#post1615811 I used it to test the Victory. What do you think.

Could someone test the armour on my ship? I'm curious of how strong she is but it's unlikely in a battle situation that I would be firing my missiles at my ship.

It's 580ish parts (mostly struts).

Here is a download.

Here is the complete results of my tests on "Victory" (I want to run more tests though, I'm a bit unsatisfied but I guess I'll see more action on Duna)

(Warning: Picture Overload)

ATLANTIS 1

The Atlantis has a total of 8 shots at it's disposal (I discarded the other 4).

My first shot at the Victory (I destroyed the bridge).

The second shot took out the outer layer of the armor (I damaged it's first layer of armor, it shrugged off my missile).

ATLANTIS 2

The third shot didn't do much damage (It only removed most of the second layer of armor).

The fourth shot however damaged the internal components and exposed a part of the Victory (It hit the thin part of the armor so it was a devastating hit but not critical, it's still able to fire it's engines and maybe the weapons).

VICTORY 1

I used the Victory against my Atlantis to test it's weaponry.

My first shot missed.

VICTORY 4

My fourth shot missed Atlantis again... I don't know what's wrong (it's point blank range but I keep missing).

VICTORY 5

My fifth shot hit the Atlantis directly with two powerful Solid Rocket Boosters. Amazingly she survived (I was hoping for an immediate destruction).

My sixth shot hit the stern of the Atlantis (She took some damage but her engines are safe otherwise).

My seventh shot missed the Atlantis AGAIN! (Something is definitely with my aiming or something)

oooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh cool use of the wings! :)

but, emmmmm.... 1800+ parts? my computer runs at 20% realtime with 400 parts! crazy O.O

720 goes to primary munitions, 400 goes to the fighter compliment, and a further 200 for the superMAC.

Thanks, I'll have a look the ship's missiles and make sure that they fire straight.

Also, has the Duna battle started yet?

Apparently, the tires have a high impact tolerance.

They seem to have forgotten about some of the structural parts. :P

I'm still waiting for the Duna Battle, it's still not yet properly set-up.

Anyways, I learned some things during those tests, why did I miss the Structural Pylon Warhead on your SRB's, they are awesome!

I might need to refit all my missiles again with that warhead, amazing tolerance level (I barely use that part really that may be the reason I missed it).

My New Space Missiles (or Tirepedoes what I like to call them, warheads made out of wheels with 100m/s impact tolerance) can give quite the punch but now that you have given me a new warhead who knows what they can do now that they would be lighter.

I have a version of a deadly Supercharged SRB with a Tire Warhead. They are deadly and I was planning to make them my Secret Weapon when my Tirepedoes are just not enough but they are too bulky to work with while putting them on ships, that's why I set them aside)

Imagine I put those New Structural Pylon Warheads on my already powerful Supercharged SRB with Tire Warheads. I'm talking about some game Serious Game Changer.

Well I already scraped my Supercharged I-beam Missiles but they are excellent precision armament, so don't dispose or completely disregard them yet. I'm still have a subassembly saved in my game who knows when you might need accurate shots.

Yep, structural pylons make good warheads. Their collision box is weird though, so move them around to different angles to see what works best.

Your testing inspired me to experiment with new warhead materials. I've had some promising results recently with small gear bays (airplane landing gear) in conjunction with other structural parts. The gear bays are massless which lets missiles go faster compared to a heavier warhead.

Another random observation: probe cores in ships built in 0.25 will still have their original battery life that they did in 0.25 even if the ship is launched in 0.90. But if 0.90 removed the reaction wheel in the core, it will be gone. Same goes for subassemblies built in 0.25.
