[1.4.1] Kerbal Construction Time 1.4.0.69 (2018-03-24) - Unrapid Planned Assembly

The RP-0 Preset is designed by the RP-0 developers, so it'd be best to ask there. It's definitely designed for having progression and requires Career mode for proper play.

With that said, the joy of Sandbox is that you can do whatever you like, so what you could do is give yourself more upgrade points whenever you feel it would be appropriate. Just change the Starting Upgrades from "15,15,45" to something like "15,15,100" (the last number is the number of upgrades for Sandbox mode). If you wanted a sense of progression you could award yourself points when you complete tasks (first pass the Karman line, first orbit, Mun impactor, etc), or you could just set it to a number that gives you build times that you find reasonable and leave it at that. Just don't forget to actually spend the new points.

A final option would be to tweak the formulas themselves, but that's a bit more involved. If you want to do that, I can do my best to help come up with some settings that meet your needs :)

Thank you so much ! :) but how can i add points to my sandbox gamesave and how can i award myself ?

Just change the Starting Upgrades from "15,15,45" to something like "15,15,100" (the last number is the number of upgrades for Sandbox mode).

Open up the main KCT window, then press "Settings" to get to the Presets window. Look for "Starting Upgrades" under "Features", change the last number from 45 to any other number, then press Save. If you want to reward yourself with little bits at a time, just open that up, add a few points, then save it. If you just want to set it to something fairly large and leave it at that, then just do that :)

Changing that number, or any other setting, will change the Preset from RP-0 to Custom, meaning any tweaks to the RP-0 Preset won't be automatically applied. I don't think there are any plans to change it that will affect you, but if you want to "resync" later let me know. It's a fairly simple process to do, depending on how many tweaks you've made.

Thank you so much Dude :D and one last question sorry for my stupid questions :) but is the RP-0 preset a realistic rocket build times ? and is it normal to choose it in sandbox ?

The RP-0 Preset is provided by the RP-0 developers (it's not even in the KerbalConstructionTime folder in GameData). RP-0 itself is a mod developed to be the official way to play with Realism Overhaul in career mode. What RP-0 does is fix all the part prices to be realistic and redoes the entire tech tree to provide a realistic progression (the mod is actually called "Realistic Progression Zero"). Neither it, nor the Preset are really supposed to be used in Sandbox mode, but nobody has made a KCT Preset (that I know of) for traditional Realism Overhaul.

When used in Career mode, the RP-0 Preset gives realistic build times and tech unlock times. It takes easily 5 in-game years before you can reliably make orbit with a manned capsule.

You might ask in the RO thread if there's anyone who uses KCT and what they've got their settings set to. I'd love to include one with KCT.

I don't know which log file i need to share, but of the top does anyone know this?

This post from the support forum lists the locations of each log file toward the bottom. If you're on Windows, the one I need is KSPFOLDER\KSP_Data\output_log.txt. Unfortunately it seems like I'll need to see the log to have any idea what's going wrong, as nothing is coming to mind that would explain what's happening.

The "Incompatible Mods Detected" message is just saying that the version of Toolbar you have installed is for 1.0.2, because it was never actually updated to 1.0.4 since it still worked fine (but the mod doesn't know that). You can safely ignore that message.

Dropbox, Google drive, etc are the most common options. If you compress it as a zip file it's much smaller. You can email it if it's less than a handful of megabytes. PM me if you want to do that

Player.log file here, i simply have to open any save and as soon as it loads the KSC it pops up as well as in other buildings

thanks

Tarsier Space Tech is the cause of your issue. It's been causing this issue for about a year now I think (since before CKAN existed). It's encountering an error while loading data, which then breaks every mod that has to load data after it. Your options are to report it and hope they fix it, remove it, or find what's causing it troubles and fix that (which will probably require save file editing).

Actually, now that I look at it, you're running an incredibly old version of that mod (v4.5) and the latest version is v5.4. Make sure you're getting it from here. That bug's probably been fixed for a while, since the version you're running is for KSP v0.24 and was released over a year ago. You also have a boat load of Module Managers installed. You should remove all of them except that latest since they can sometimes cause issues.

I highly suggest you take a look at CKAN as it will prevent these sorts of things from happening in the future.

uncle natzer I'm looking into yours now. I'll edit this once I find something.

Edit: You've managed to contract the SCANsat bug that has been affecting numerous other users. I haven't found a source of that one yet, but it always happens when going from the flight scene and usually happens when you've gone from one flight to another directly (rather than going to the tracking station in between). It only happens with SCANsat installed, but I'm not sure if it's directly caused by SCANsat or if a stock bug is causing SCANsat to go nuts.

Thank you very very much magico!

NOT only do I no longer have overlapping module managers at start up, but it loads a little faster. I didn't realise that the number on the end of module manager was its version and i had old ones...

also my add on manager never told me easier needed an update, perhaps it wasn't connected to the website to let me know...

Everything works fine now! every time i played and finished, i would verify integrity of game cache and it would tell 1 file was invalid, so i'd fix it but 1 always broke...things are still breaking

I still have a problem with Nan at launch though, i have a craft that if i launch it goes nan, but this isn't this mod because it went nan when i didn't have this...did you see anything else unusual in code?

Screen%2BShot%2B2015-10-07%2Bat%2B9.44.20%2Bam.pngScreen%2BShot%2B2015-10-07%2Bat%2B9.51.38%2Bam.png

Screen%2BShot%2B2015-10-07%2Bat%2B9.52.16%2Bam.png

Made of infernal robotics, procedural battery, tweak scale, KAS/Kis, and rover wheels (forgot) and kerbal joint reinforcement as a side mod

i will recreate it and give another player.log file HERE

Edit: Also i can't close the pop up windows from KCT and the icon where other mods are like Hyperedit isn't there. is it meant like this?

If your "addon manager" is KSP-AVC, you should know that it will only recognize mods that voluntarily include a .version file and host a remote .version file somewhere to compare against. I have to manually update the .version file in every download. CKAN shifts all of that from being the mod author's job to being their bot's job and handles automatically updating things (I like CKAN, it's handy and saves me a lot of time, so I have a tendency to sing its praises). Tarsier Space Tech went through an owner change and I don't believe ever included a .version file, so that's likely why you didn't know of that update.

I looked through the log and unfortunately am not seeing anything that points me directly toward a specific mod. The error logged is within KSP's code, but is undoubtedly caused by a mod. If I had to guess, it'd be the wheels or Infernal Robotics.

Looking back at that error though, it could be caused by another craft. Try loading that craft in a new save and see if the same error occurs. If yes, it's the craft, if no then there's something else in that save that's causing it.

As for your edit, check the Blizzy Toolbar Mod for the button as it might be there instead of in the stock launcher. There's an option in KCT's settings to choose which toolbar to use.

Error from log:

Hi, love your mod. But I ran into a problem

I don't have a log file (internet problems with that computer), but I know the problem. I installed a mod, built a rocket with its parts and left it in the KCT inventory and then realized that mod is causing other problems so I deleted it, yet the rocket still sat in the inventory and now KCT gives me a gui clip error and won't let me open the VAB tab of the KCT toolbar thingy. I'll get you a log file as soon as I get this internet thing fixed.

Right now, though, I need help figuring out how to delete the rocket from the persistence file.

edit: log file for science

Right now, though, I need help figuring out how to delete the rocket from the persistence file.

As a one off fix, why not reinstall the mod, load up. delete/scrap any rockets/planes that are problematic, quit, remove mod.

if you managed to get as far as building a rocket it must be stable enough to get that far.

Also, which mod, might help A) avoid it B) fix it.

Right now, though, I need help figuring out how to delete the rocket from the persistence file.

Right, this is an issue other people have noted and I haven't touched KCT in a few weeks so I haven't gotten a fix in yet. The manual fix is to open the persistence and search for KCT_Vessel or for the vessel's name. You should find a block of text along the lines of

KCT_Vessel
{
...
}

If the name that's listed toward the top of that block is the right one then remove that whole block, making sure to line up the curly braces correctly (some text editors have the ability to select an entire block by matching brace). When you open the save again, it should work correctly but you'll be missing that vessel.

An alternative method that might let you at least scrap the ship to get your funds back (but no parts) would be to remove the actual ship data (a sub-node of KCT_Vessel, might be called ShipNode). That might not work correctly either though as I've never tried it.

Definitely back up your save first! If you can't get it working for whatever reason, you can upload the save file and I can try to fix it for you. Otherwise, good luck!

I'll try to make sure the next release gets that fix in there. It honestly shouldn't be too hard to implement, I just need to sit down and do it.

Okay, I went on a new save, copied the .craft into the new save and it still has this problem...the craft goes nan, i exit back to hangar everything is blue, then back to KSC and everything is just space, no earth...this also happens from VAB launch.

It's always 1 file that breaks when this stuff happens, so annoying, continually verifying integrity of game..

I am currently testing the ship with certain parts removed and seeing which part it was.

it's NOT the wheels, i removed them and error still persists, another restart...

It's NOT the hydraulic rails that hold the wheels, yet another restart

It's NOT the Magnet...

hmm scary now my game is stuck on Kas/sounds/unplug while loading game...okay nvm, its loading after a restart but slowly...

It's not the winch, the only mods left on here is a procedural battery a light, a bunch of tweak scale thermal generators (stock), all of which work fine on other ships (this ship used to work fine and without touching it, it got infected...

It's not the head light.I removed the procedural battery which was blue on the light, and it now loads the craft better, but i says i am going nan horizontal on Kerbal engineer...Screen%2BShot%2B2015-10-08%2Bat%2B9.32.28%2Bam.png

i can't move so i will add some stock wheels to see if it takes off at nan, only other mods left is rescaled stock parts, like a solar panels, thermal gens, and a structural plate..

okay i put wheels on, if it has no brakes it moves a little (cm) if brakes are on Kerbal engineer tells me nan....to make sure this isn't normals i launched a normal rocket...

all other ships simply go 0.00mm/s instead of NAN, i mean it kinda doesn't break the game, maybe it was shape, position and colour that made the battery break game...

Hey. Couple of minor interface usability tweaks I thought I might suggest:

  • could we have 'x'/'close window' buttons in the corners in the various menus and windows of this mod? When you're using them all a lot, I find it's often a lot easier than having to hunt down the menu that opened it in order to close it. The trickiest is, I think, the windows in the editor, where it's something like there's a window that opens a window that opens another window...and if you close the middle window, you have to open it again just to close the third window.
  • With the build lists/queues, if the names of your designs are too long, it adds a scrollable bar at the bottom. Obviously, that's really handy, but the times and 'cancel/launch/etc' buttons are included in the scrollable list, meaning every time you want to see the time you have to scroll to the end. Since the 'time' and 'launch' bits are of a fixed length and aren't going to get any longer, there's no real need to have them included in the scrollable section. I know nothing about the coding of this stuff, so I don't know if it's a simple tweak, but I'd certainly find it very handy!
  • Any chance we could get the 'rollout' and 'launch' buttons working directly from the tracking station? I know this is a weirdly specific request, but if I alt tab while in the space centre, it always pauses my timewarp, so I find the best way of passing time between launches is going into the tracking station, hitting "warp until complete" and then alt+tabbing for a minute. Saving having the extra loading screen from tracking station->space centre->launchpad would actually save a lot of time altogether (at least given how much time I spend playing this mod... ). Alternatively, if someone knows how to stop alt+tabbing interrupting timewarp at the space centre, that would be grand too :)

P.S. I have so much love for this mod <3

Okay, I went on a new save, copied the .craft into the new save and it still has this problem...the craft goes nan, i exit back to hangar everything is blue, then back to KSC and everything is just space, no earth...this also happens from VAB launch.

I'm not sure that I can provide any additional help. It sounds like you've got an incompatible mod installed or something. I wouldn't worry too much about the single file being "messed up" when you verify the game cache, as that's likely just a file that would change through normal usage of KSP.

Hey. Couple of minor interface usability tweaks I thought I might suggest:

--snip--

- X button in the corners might be doable, but it's not as easy as I'd like. Working with Unity GUIs as a mod and entirely in code is basically a nightmare. There's no way to even preview what it will look like without firing up the game and testing, and all the elements in the GUI are placed relative to each other and not in any absolute location. I might be able to add things with an absolute location though (relative to the window position) which would make close buttons easier. No promises though. At the very least I'll fix up the editor so if you close one window it closes all of them.

- Moving those elements out of the scroll bar would take an entire GUI redesign and would suck to do. The horizontal scrollbar is tied to the vertical one and all those elements are in a single "ScrollView". Conceivably I could split them into two ScrollViews, sync the vertical scrollbars, and disable the horizontal scrollbar in the one. It's maybe doable, but might look terrible if you ever need the vertical scrollbars (as there would be two of them. I might be able to hide one but still have it function).

- Rollout from tracking station, yes I'll add that. Launch is a different story. It used to work there kind of but would often result in your rocket being 100 meters in the air. The "fix" I came up with for it ended up breaking a bunch of other things, so for now you can only launch from the Space Center, Flight, and the Editor. I'll see if I can fix that, or if it was fixed in recent updates (probably not :P )

E: Thank you for the suggestions though :) GUI design is one of my weak points, and the way we modders are forced to do it sucks ;.;

Haha, I kind of knew GUI editing would be way more convoluted than I'd expected :P

Btw, one of my logs had a bit of spam just now of the following repeated over and over:

NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
at KerbalConstructionTime.KCT_GUI.DrawBuildListWindow (Int32 windowID) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

at UnityEngine.GUILayout+LayoutedWindow.DoWindow (Int32 windowID) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

at UnityEngine.GUI.CallWindowDelegate (UnityEngine.WindowFunction func, Int32 id, UnityEngine.GUISkin _skin, Int32 forceRect, Single width, Single height, UnityEngine.GUIStyle style) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

(Filename: Line: -1)

If it isn't something really obvious, I wouldn't waste your time on trying to debug it though - I'm running far more mods than is sensible, and tbf I think it only happened after a whole host of other things broke in the game. Just posting it FYI in case it comes up again for someone else or something.

I'm trying to decode the log now, but at a guess I reckon this probably happened when I clicked the KCT button and I got an exception spam as the menu failed to load properly (until I changed the scene, I think) - but this was only after a bunch of things had already broken (I think the broad cause was basically too many mods combined with too many quickloads/quicksaves in a short space of time...)

EDIT: Yeah, scrolling up further it looks like it was preceded by a whole bunch of GUI-related exceptions for a load of other mods as well, so probably safe to say it's not a KCT problem

Is there a hard limit to the number of build slots available? I can't get more than 6 of them.

Yes there is, it's limited in the BuildRateFormula to 2 per VAB level. Remove the "*sign(2*[L]-+1)" part of that formula and it should let you have an unlimited number of rates. I believe that won't get you caught in an infinite loop anymore, but if you load up the game and it totally freezes then add that back in and let me know. Alternatively, change the "2" to a larger number to just increase the maximum number (ie, "3" makes it 3 per VAB level, which would be 9 total)

Maybe it's incompatible with another mod which doesn't let me launch? it a mod that only appears while in flight so...the other mod i installed is science alert, but it works fine.. plus the mods i had before (21 mods in total)

Edit: once 1.1 come out i am going to do a clean install of all the mods i want, hopefully they get updated in time!
