Does undocking un-strut too?

Recommended Posts

In the VAB, I add struts to keep my docked payloads together. They work great. In space, when I undock, the struts automatically will disappear, yes? And if I re-dock in the exact same position, with the same rotation, the struts will automatically reappear? I tested it once, and I *think* that's what happened, but I'm not sure. Thanks.

Yes, struts disappear as soon as you undock.

Undocking splits your ship into two separate vessels. And since struts can ONLY exist within a single vessel and NEVER between two different ones they break and vanish.

If I ever make a set of satellites to launch, I'll have to use docking ports instead, I suppose ... some time ago, I made a bunch, used separators and strutted them together for structural reinforcement, and they turned into so much debris when I set those off...

Thanks for the quick replies. OK, I shall strut the heck out of my docked payloads. :)

One useful thing to do, is to have all struts going from the launcher to the payload, not from the payload to the launcher. When struts are disconnected, the first point of them (the start/from point) stays around after the strut vanishes. If they start on the launcher, the payload will be left clean of strut anchor blocks (but after next reload, not instantly, if memory serves).
