Steam-Style servers

Recommended Posts

Makes sense, my only problem with steam modding is you have to download the mods every time you load a world. and it seems to me that server connections thru steam would be slow. so maybe find the server with steam and then directly connect to it?

(I hate it when I disagree with my own ideas sometimes)

My biggest concern when I see this brought up is that by my understanding, incorporating any of the major steam functionalities means including steam DRM due to the way it's all structured, and that would be a not-insignificant downside to me. I haven't found anyone that can show me a game that includes steam workshop, for example, that doesn't also include DRM.

Doing their own launcher with game management features would probably divert too much of their development time. After all, it was easier for them to pass off the SpacePort functionality to Curse when the SpacePort2 developer left than it was to finish development.

Not saying the idea itself isn't good, just that there are potential issues.

Games don't have to use Steam Drm to use the workshop. Examples: Prison Architect, Skyrim, Goat Simulator, EUIV, CKII, space engineers. I'm 90% sure about these, but I may be wrong about a few.

Also, the Devs have said previously that they will not do features specific to one version.

I think there are ways you can have your non steam one deactivated and be given a key for steam

That's only for store purchases bought before Steam was an option. At any rate, as far as I know there are no plans to go Steam-only for KSP, which is a boon for those of us who don't use it.
