Cool. :D

I'm gonna hafta step it up; looks like low-altitude subsonic aerobatics are the way to go.

It's not my challenge, but I intend to keep pushing this until I get bored with it. Given how much I enjoy doing stupid and suicidal things with planes, that's unlikely to be any time soon. :)

Any chance I can tempt you into having a go at one or more of the things linked in my .sig? You'd probably get a kick out of Speed Challenge II...

Well, the 20g one was at Mach 1.7 the 24g one was at mach 0.9, I kept turning while gaining speed.

If you want to go with subsonic you need lots of lift, then nosedive and pull as high angle of attack as you can.

If you want to go supersonic try to go as fast as possible, then drop to 5~3km and pull sideways.

Planes usually won't break if you keep the navball indicator inside the circle of the prograde marker, if it does then your design is not for this challenge.

I will consider joining those challenges, but I don't go past the 25km altitude very often.

I'm continuing to suck at aerobatics, but I may have an early contender for one of the landing prizes...

Let's see how I go with a tune-up from Tetryds and a bit of extra reinforcement.

Hmmn, not quite according to plan. Need moar struts.

Jump for it, Bill! Parachutes are for wimps.

Oof.

Shame you can't expand these windows.

Just hafta use two screenshots instead, then. One second between bail-out and cockpit destruction ain't bad.

So do I get "walk away from" points?

BTW, a couple of mods that are very helpful for this challenge, and for flight in general:

Extended Trim: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/90825-Extended-Trim

Allows you to make "set trim to current inputs" and "clear trim" into action groups.

Improved Chase Camera: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/80112-0-24-x-Improved-Chase-Camera-v1-4-0-(7-23)

Gives a chase cam that follows the plane but doesn't have the hypersensitive pitch or roll of the original (but does invert when appropriate). Takes a bit of getting used to, but worthwhile.

I'm also having a lot of fun with the IVA cameras of Raster Prop Monitor...

Okay, so I didn't do it with the 1000-Kerbal ship, but I did do it with a 241-Kerbal ship. (which survived the maneuvers as long as the brutal FAR aerostructural failures are turned off)

31.429 Gees. The plane was totaled on landing after it did a yaw-spin on the ground (I've never tried to land it when it is full of fuel. Most of my landing are when it weighs less than half what it does here). Out of the 241 brave Kerbals who were onboard. 42 survived and 199 perished in the crash.

All that I get in terms of extra achievements is "Four's a crowd." While it did initially touch down on the runway, which would seem to be good for "ace" and the landing fits the idea of "any landing you can walk away from." It doesn't really complete it because the failure was not in the air, it was on the ground, and it skidded off to the side during the crash.

That's kinda the point, though, innit? Dealing with them and still pulling off crazy stunts?

Wanderfound, what is the mod you are using that displays orbital and flight data around the navball?

Kerbal Flight Data; highly recommended. It allowed me to stop cluttering up my screen with Mechjeb and FAR information windows.

Check out Kerbal Flight Indicators while you're at it; that's what's producing the artificial horizon in the distance.
