Fuel Line Question

Recommended Posts

I designed a small asparagus-style Duna lander that will shed its landing legs and boosters shortly after leaving the surface, leaving only a lander-can and central fuel tank and engine. Problem is, those idiots in the VAB (yes, I'm talking about YOU, Gimley Kerman!), installed the fuel lines backward, so the central tank feeds the four boosters, essentially making the craft as heavy and inefficient as possible. Is there any way to disable fuel flow in the field?

Right-click the core tank - there are green 'flow' symbols to the right of the fuel and oxidiser guages. Click those to change them to red/stop, click again when you want to use it. There's no way to reverse the flow but you can at least keep the fuel in the core until you need it.

Right click the central tank. Left click the green triangle next to the fuel level. You will need to do the same for oxidizer and undo it after you drop the boosters.

of course if your intent was to asparagus, then you won't be able to run the central engine when you do this.

You say four boosters in asparagus, this will give two pipes from core, not four? In onion you have four pipes to core.

In all cases top up core stage.

If the piping is asparagus and all the way wrong 2<-1<-0->1->2, in this setting rearrange staging so you drop 1 first, dropping 2 activates core engine 0, after 1 is dropped you can enable center tank fuel flow as the pipe is broken.

if onion or 2->1<-0->1<-2, you have to wait activate want to drain 2 first so have less fuel in them. core and 1 should be full, drop tanks as soon as empty. then just core is left open flow and continue. you just need around 1500 m/s for Duna so it should work out. repack parashutes as an safty :)
