Target Vessel Attitude Navball Marker

Hey, People!

I think that there should be a navball marker showing the direction that the target vessel/docking port is pointing, to help with docking.

At the moment (0.24.2), if one of the spacecraft is uncontrollable, to get the two aligned, I have to judge it by eye.

If anybody knows any mods or techniques that can help with this, please tell me.

In stock, right click the docking port on the controlled vehicle and select "control from here", then select the target docking port and choose "set as target". Set the navball to "Target Mode" by clicking on the speed indicator, it will now show the speed relative to the target.

A mod that is very helpful for docking is Docking Port Alignment Indicator. Provides a simple interface that shows alignment and speed in the different axes.

OP was not concerned with relative velocity, but rather, relative orientation, which target mode in stock KSP does not address.

I agree. This would be a great feature that's not as complicated as Alignment Indicator (for new players)

You're right of course. I was unclear if the OP was using the tools that are available in stock, but even so alignment is not handled by them.

What you want is navball Docking Alignment mod. It's a tiny mod that adds a small red dot to the navball. If you point at it, you're alligned.

I believe Squad is planning to implent their own version of the enhanced navball, maybe they'll include this

I've tried Docking Port Alignment Indicator, the Navball Docking alignment mod and the Lazer Docking Camera mod and found the Docking Port Alignment mod to be far easier to use. You get graphical and numeric indicators for rotation, distance above/below, distance left/right, distance to target and the above/below and left/right indicator lines are also green when on the correct side of the target and red when on the incorrect side of the target.

IMO, the Docking Port Alignment mod should be added to the stock game.

I've always eye-balled it, the naval Docking Alignment mod Sirrobert mentions sounds enough to make a big difference and very simple.
