Priority of road for cyclist

Sometime ago Polish Parliament introduced new law giving more more privileges to cyclist, for now on cyclist have priority on road, the drivers give them passt on in intersection

But many Polish driver openly ignore new regulation, which cause many dangerous accident, and priority for cyclist are on paper only.

I read one article on internet that he saved several years to buy brand new car for 40 000 zł and he will not give way for some stupid Hipster( i not know what this term mean) with his bike for 500 zł.

Ignoring law of road lead to penalty and possibly losing license (with in Poland is very hard to get due hard testing) causing accident even more and could result in conviction, but i heard that your your legislators considering rolling reverting previous laws that give priority to cyclist on road, because drivers (but not all) are united to disobey this law with cause danger situations on road.

Here at least, the opposite seems to be the problem. Drivers seem to follow the rules of the road (most of the time, anyway), but cyclists are all over the place. At times they occupy the road along with cars and should be subject to the same rules, at others they seem to follow the rules for pedestrians, whichever is more convenient at the time. It makes it very difficult for motorists to predict how a cyclist will behave and act accordingly.

I have nothing against cyclists, but there needs to be defined rules for them to follow and penalties for not following them, just like everyone else on the road.

+1 to Red Iron Crown

I'm sad to say (I'm a cyclist too), but here in Hungary the majority of cyclists are very rude, and don't obey even the most basic rules, like stopping at the red light, and giving way to the right.

My "favourite" kind of such people are the ones who ride at like √2 km/h in a way you can't pass them in the narrow bicycle lane. When you manage to get in front of them, they pass you again at the next corner (through the pedestrian crossing), while you wait for the traffic light's green. After that you have to pass them again... I hate them so much!

Also, their actions are very dangerous, I've seen a lot of ugly accidents resulting in broken limbs (of ran-over pedestrians, and/or the cyclists themselves) or worse injuries.

Many of these careless cyclists ride right behind trucks and buses, and when those large vehicles hit the brakes, things go wild. Also, they are very unpredictable. They change lanes so rapidly that even the most careful drivers have no chances of avoiding an accident.

Here in Budapest the number of cyclists are rapidly increasing. There are many of them who haven't brought their bike out from the garage for years, and aren't adapted to riding on the city's roads. Police is very tolerant with them. This is not the case with drivers. I think this is very unfair. Forcing cyclists to follow the rules would be good for everybody.

Of course, there are a lot of disrespectful motorists who use their 1-2 tons of steel to frighten the cyclists, or are simply not careful enough. I have been riding the bike to everywhere (instead of mass transit) for 3 years, but I haven't caused any accident, damage to property or injuries (for others or myself), even if I meet rude drivers and cyclists everyday. The most important thing is to be careful, and learn to handle these careless guys safely, because they will always exist.

Where I live there are 2 lane roads only wide enough for 1 large truck or 2 sedans. Somehow the "hardcore" bicyclists manage to find their way in groups of 2-3 across on these roads, which have numerous hills. Not that I want to hurt or kill anyone, but if I was passing them on a hill when a car rounded it, I would probably hit them to avoid being killed (or having a passenger be killed).

IMHO cyclists riding on the road should follow and be expected to follow the normal traffic laws. Automatically giving cyclists priority is a bad idea because one of the most dangerous things is when a cyclist appears in a place and time a 4-wheeled vehicle couldn't. For example a motorist turning left while a cyclist filters up the inside.

The law here is that a bicycle is a vehicle, obliged to follow the same traffic laws as a motor vehicle is it is operating on the road.

Practically, I mostly see three kinds of cyclists around.

1. Kids: They don't seem to have much grasp of operating on major roads, and in residential areas act like they have right-of-way all the time. Of course, I remember being that way myself. They can learn.

2. Adults: Most of them tend to reasonably obey traffic laws or keep to bicycle lanes. I can make the occasional allowance for them, because they do tend to respect the laws in most situations.

3. On Site: The people I tend to see riding between buildings where I work really do seem to be the type that think they have special rights just because they are on a bike. These are the ones that drive me crazy.

That is the law here, too, but it is not enforced at all. Some of the cyclists do as they please without consequence or regard for other traffic, and it makes the road more dangerous and gives other cyclists a bad name. Doesn't help that our collision liability rules treat cyclists like pedestrians in that the motorist is assumed to be at fault in a collision unless proven otherwise.
