Provide easy method to remove legacy parts in 0.25

On tonight's SQUADCast there was mention that the older spaceplane parts had become redundant and that there would be a "grace period" for players to transition to the new ones. Please provide an easy method whereby players can remove the older legacy parts.

Agreed. Either an optional download or a separate folder in Gamedata or something.. Either way, the deprecated parts should be hidden in the editors so for people who carry over craft files can easily update their stuff and then delete the legacy parts entirely. I always start fresh on any new update anyway - entirely clean slate, not even my savefiles are transferred over, let alone crafts. An easy way to remove irrelevant stuff would be highly appreciated.

Might be an easy mod to make, using module manager perhaps?

No, the textures and models would still load. If the parts are being deprecated I want an easy method to remove them early so I can benefit from them not loading at all.

Deleting the files isn't easy enough?

Not really. The current naming scheme is extremely unintuitive - without looking at the config, tell me what "liquidEngine2-2" is. If it took you more than 2 seconds, it's too long. The idea is to have an easy way to remove parts that you don't need. If someone doesn't need the old LV-909 any more, they should just be able to either not download the file or delete it without having to search through a bunch of configs to find out which one is the LV-909.

Ted mentioned in one of the 0.25 threads that part naming has been revamped to provide better part ordering in the SPH/VAB, this may make simply deleting a more viable option.

This is true, however, I still think that having one folder called Legacy or Deprecated or whatever would be a lot easier than having to go into all the necessary folders and delete every single one individually.

Seriously though, why would anyone be against this? Not saying you are specifically, RIC, but like... there's literally zero downside (if a Legacy folder is included alongside Gamedata or Squad or whatever) - people would still be able to load old crafts and swap things out as needed then/or delete unwanted assets. Why say 'ehh, actually, I prefer to sift through the folders and delete deprecated parts' when the other option is for the devs to make a new folder?

I'm not against it at all. Max also mentioned in the Squadcast that they might repackage the old parts as an official mod, maybe they could be split out into their own folder now and be ahead of the game.

Like I said,

Not saying you are specifically, RIC

But yeah, I'd just like for the option to have the old parts as optional, not buried in amongst the new parts. Sorry if you got the impression I was being overly hostile or whatever, honestly didn't mean for it to read like that :)

It seems like such a small thing but if you maintain a few installs deleting parts one by one gets tedious, anything that makes it quicker and easier is good news.

This is it, really. I have four installs of KSP and I don't want unecessary parts in any of them. If the parts are eventually going to be removed, I just want to have it done with now rather than seeing them linger around. Hopefully they're at least marked as deprecated; if anything I can just run a grep to find them but that only solves my particular case (plus, it's annoying).

Sorry to bump an old thread, but has a definitive list of the parts to be removed in 0.90 been released? I know all the Mk3 stuff is being replaced and some of the wings, but I'm less sure about some of the winglets. I'd like to be able to keep working designs through the next update but am not 100% sure which parts to avoid.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
