Iwonder what what is minimum age and maximum age to successfully survive spaceflight?

Hmm... 27 years old, 1.80m, 70kg, non-smoker, but asthma and psoriasis would probably rule me out. Nobody wants to deal with my coughing and disgusting flaky skin all over their space station!!

Psoriasis can be cured with Chinese would meds (herbs) they cure me from much worsen conditions, as for psoriasis the can cure it with 3-6 months, my English teacher from middle school had it, and Chinese (Mongols actually(with was real doctor aside she was trained in Chinese traditional medicine) ) help her, she was very skeptic at first, but it's really worked

You do realize that is both highly illegal and imoral. Sending children to space to see which ones dont die?

Yes you right, it was immoral, this goes too far, as for this whole thread is "thought experiment" because someday whole mankind would leave Earth (including children) but i think we should define children, for me children is someone bellow 13 years old, than become teenager who look (more or less) and behave (let we see this is BIG EXAGGERATION) as an adult human being, and remember from who own Teen years did You Dream Big about daring and dashing space mission? I think most of us had.

Maybe some day when i start my own space company i would make reality show for teens BECOME TEENAGE LAJKA: Donate yourself for the science: High school diploma not required :D

I don't see any reason a newborn baby wouldn't survive being put into space just fine, although it probably wouldn't exactly be a pleasant experience for anyone involved.

I agree that child of any age could survive from short space travel. Children have better strength to mass -ratio than adults so accelerations or vibrations would not be problem. And there are not other difficult things during short beings in space. Long staying in microgravity could of course be more harmful to growth and development.

I think that there is not also straight upper limit of age. You can go to space as long as you are wealthy. If you have osteoporosis or some other things, which makes you sensitive to vibrations or g-forces, you are invalid also on Earth's surface. You bones have as large stresses under normal activities as during modern spaceflight. Astronauts have their special selection and education processes because they must be able to make decisions and work under circumstances of ascent and descend phases.

At any age?

I wouldn´t be all too sure about it.

During the first 1-1.5 years of its life, the baby still has its fontanelles open (for readers not aware of the term .... it means that the skull still is open along 4 lines, to allow for the brain to grow, without being impeded by a fixed encasement of skull bones).

Therefore I actually don´t dare to imagine what the the vibrations and high G forces of ascent/descent would do to the skull a child of <= 1.5 years

My feelings on alternative medicine are pretty well summed up by Dara O'Briain. (

I agree when i created this thread i don't meant young children i thought about teens and 80+ people.

With this restriction I would agree that even teens hould be able to get up there without too much harm.

I´d doubt the same about old people (unless they are well trained) ... due to decreasing muscle mass and more brittle bones

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
